Description
Can you tell that I enjoy making these? :UVery recent idea that's also a partial recycling of that old "techno-organic" thing I had for Megaman (maybe I'll bring Herb back?). Basic premise is that the human colonists of Tau Ceti IV decide to check out its neighbor Tau Ceti V, with construction of another colony halting when it's discovered to be home to sentient life. Vince goes camping in the woods for a while and meets one of these mutant aliens, Durandal.
--
The actual original idea was just to draw the Rozies as various mythological monsters; then somewhere along the way, I remembered the thing mentioned above (itself ganked from Transformers Beast Wars/Machines). Some scattered thoughts on mutant physiology and whatnot:
* Mutants are semi-eusocial in that they have queens and there are certain expectations attached to the role, but don't operate on anything resembling a hive mind and don't even always stick with the colony.
* I dunno yet if all mutants have two legs, but the ones that do all have digitigrade legs. Durandal's look like a cat's, Tira's a horse's, etc.
* Queens are usually distinguishable by their multiple pairs of arms and patches of hard chitin resembling armour; they're also typically the ones doing the conceiving. Leela is one such individual; abnormally for a queen, she's infertile, and not particularly interested in procreation anyway. Thus, she gets the thankless task of constantly fending off rival queens who would like to assimilate her colony by force.
* Mingling of disparate colonies is the norm; depending on the culture, some small/dying colonies will join with larger ones.
* A good number of mutants are monoecious/fantasy-intersex (ex. Durandal, Tira); tails are the most common indicators of this, though it's possible for a non-monoecious individual (ex. Caliban) to inherit a tail from their ancestors.
* Speaking of, Durandal's tail is tipped with a venomous stinger. He also inherited his fluffy coat from ancestors who dwelt in the polar regions.
* Unlike in the mer AU, mutants and humans cannot interbreed.

Other notes:
* Vince's battleroid implants might be techno-organic in nature; the one he has the most difficulty hiding is the thing built into his hand. Initially, he might realize on a subconscious level that Strauss was responsible and head to the woods in order to put more distance between them. It doesn't quite work, and unfortunately Vince is now hanging out with a mutant (later two mutants) who'd be very useful in Strauss's "research"...
* I imagine the hybrid-fish-wasp lady from the mer AU (who still needs a name...) would be Leela's friendly rival, and Iscariot would be an actual threat who also wants Leela's human buddy for herself. Vince reacts to this about as well as he did in the vamp AU.
* Thought about making Caliban a full-blown naga, but then he'd just be his mer AU self with extra bits and bobs.

Not quite, since this isn't structured anything like X-Men.

Ohh, more of this. Love the almost organic machinery writhing out of Vinceβs arm. These concepts are cool as hell.
