Description
Despite seeing a lot of VLD-related fanworks and stuff, I never really got into the show...especially not after certain bone-headed, alienating decisions made in later seasons. What better way to correct those than with a fusion that fundamentally alters a number of VLD elements?(Answer: probably a lot of ways)
The scenario goes something like this: not too long after settling into the Jovian Republic, Vince and Durandal are called upon to investigate a downed cargo freighter suspected of trafficking sentient beings. The freighter is actually abandoned, save for a single stasis pod of unknown make; Vince opens it, and out comes tumbling what appears at first glance to be a variant human. She's an Altean, her name is Allura, and she was put in there 10,000 years ago.
A week after Allura is brought back to the Republic, a message arrives from a governing body calling itself the Galra Empire: turn over the last Altean for execution within three days, or face their wrath.
Naturally, the Republic finds this demand abhorrent and refuses--not realizing just how vast and powerful the Galra really are. Now Sol Core has to fend off the Galra with many of its war assets tied up in the existing Human-Pfhor War; things are looking grim, but Allura has a plan: while the Altean race is functionally extinct as far as anyone knows, the Galra were disinclined to take downed Altean vessels out of pride, and some of them might be salvageable. If she can recover as many as possible, her fleet might be able to keep the Galra away from Sol Core.
Ten Jovian warriors--five human, five leonine--step forward to aid Allura in this daunting task. The Paladins, in their travels, have encountered the Galra before; they have enough knowledge of the modern-day incarnation of the Empire to deal with them reliably, and will serve as Allura's right-hand men and women until the conflict has passed. Vince, burdened by guilt over unwittingly starting this whole mess, makes the decision to join Allura's crew; Durandal follows him.

Took about two days, during which I learned not to draw for several hours straight. Again.
