I was getting a little sick of some people confusing Gwen/Heretic for a robot. XDHowever, that's my fault. The suit was originally designed as a cybernetic suit of armor. When I teamed up to make Grafted in 2016, the lore demanded that it become organic. We did some tweaks, but I was stubborn and wanted to keep my angular look. Mostly because I wanted to preserve a strangely androgynous look to the character when suited up.
So, two years later, here I am finally caving to make something a bit more organic. The big hurdle was the breast-plate. I also had to ditch some of the solid plate-like lines of the older design.
This has the effect of making her look a little less protected, so I amped up her limbs as these were meant to deflect incoming attacks and fire with the reflexes of a Jedi. The result is something that I think remains mobile-looking while protective. Caving and finally letting the insect eyes actually be insect eyes also goes a long way.

So the first Heretic (Arthur Collins's Heretic) was your Iron Man analogue, and the second Heretic (white Gwen), the third Heretic (first design for black Gwen's Heretic) and this fourth Heretic (second design for black Gwen's Heretic) are all basically Ultraman analogues?

Believe it or not, each iteration of the characters is actually a bit closer to Captain America in terms of what they choose to do with that power. Even then, each of those iterations is less Captain America and much more closely related to a non-super hero character: Captain Kirk.
Pro civil liberties, weary of easily earned power, and preferring to do no harm despite an immense armament at his or her disposal.
That said, as I was gearing up to pursue this story more seriously back in 2008 I did see the Iron Man film at the time. Before that film, I was trying to batter the powers of the suit into a 'believable' state where the materials of the suit could only repel small arms fire, but something from a rifle such as an M-16 or AK-47 would penetrate the armor. Let alone a mounted heavy machine gun.
Then I saw the film, and a suit hobbled together from parts for a missile (which are meant to be light so there would be less demand for fuel in said projectile) was able to survive a mounted .50 machine gun.
… I had to change the rules.
So, I pushed it closer to something like a Jedi and could deflect incoming fire but would still need to avoid a strike from a firearm in order to survive.

The reason I likened the latter (ie. organic) Heretic suits to Ultraman was because both the design of the Heretic suit reminds me of Ultraman and because the newest Heretic suits being organic living suits that bond to the wearer reminded me of the Beta Capsule. ultra.fandom.com/wiki/Beta_Cap…

Hm. 5he thing is: I've never watched anything to do with Ultraman. That being said, I have friends that say I was channeling Guyver even though I hadn't seen anything related to the property until I after I started work on the project.

I figured. I just also wanted to share the idea has morphed and changed a lot over the years too. It's a bit like saying, "I like the old Doctor Who" and a fan asking for clarification if you meant a previous actor who played the Doctor and, if so, who exactly.

Gwen currently has the lowest synchronization rate to her Graft by comparison to her peers. They're both in the mid 60 percentile. She's in the high 30's. As she catches up, the appearance of the Graft can change. A bit like one of the characters from Dragon Pilot who forced her dragon to stay in the form of a jet, Gwen hasn't really embraced the Graft. The more she does, the more it can relax into a form that it's comfortable with rather than what strictly lets Gwen be comfortable.

Well, for the foe I have planned, she'll need to improve a lot and do it quickly. So yeah, you'll be seeing this form in the canon of the series sooner rather than later.
