Description It feels fitting that the first episode of ContamiNOPEs features the first mutant encountered by humanity: The Progenitor, or "Sandy" as she is affectionately referred to by some. The name comes from Contaminant 2.0, aka Toxic Shock as it was known at the time, where monsters would be given human names similar to how we name hurricanes in the real world. Sandy in Toxic Shock fulfilled a very similar role to The Progenitor in Contaminant: Both were salamanders mutated by pollution caused by a new fuel source (Neutrozine in TS, and Nebranium in C:FC), attack a human city/town, are killed, and leave behind a litter of offspring to carry on their legacy.

This design for "Sandy" was to be featured in a hypothetical Toxic Shock 3, which never ended up coming to fruition. Enter Contaminant in it's very early stages circa 2017/2018: Being a reboot of Toxic Shock, Contaminant had to feature Sandy in some shape or form and so I set about brainstorming some design details. Around this time is when I settled on the macabre style my monsters would have, and I remembered that I had a physical copy of this drawing buried somewhere in my old art binders. Unfortunately, the drawing never turned up and I had to go off of memory. By sheer luck, I uploaded the photo to Facebook a long time ago and the "Facebook Memories" feature miraculously revealed it to me in my time of need. Needless to say, I've never saved something to my PC so fast. With my reference ready, I set about creating the first draft for Sandy's design in Contaminant. In many ways, this old drawing I sketched and never completed around 2013/2014 laid the foundation for all future monsters in Contaminant: Flesh Corrupted.

For the final product, I toned down the fleshy and veiny aspects as I felt it was a tad bit too excessive, but the overall "feel" was left intact. From here, "Sandy" became "The Progenitor".
