History:
Another product of Nebranium waste dumping off the Florida coast, The Kraken began life as an unassuming starfish that was heavily exposed to the radioactive waste that saturated the water around it. Over time, this radiation caused the starfish's body to go haywire. The animal's body would tear itself apart as it swelled in size, flesh liquefying and regrowing to accommodate it's new frame. As it grew, it's appetite grew with it and it sought out increasingly larger prey to sustain it. After weeks went by, the animal had grown to titanic proportions and was now feeding on things as big as sharks, whales and any large fish it could seize with it's tentacles.
The colossal starfish would crawl across the ocean floor, plowing through anything in it's way as it sought out more food. Entire coral reefs where obliterated by the passing mutant, and particularly unlucky ones would be devoured. The starfish would regurgitate it's whole stomach and release digestive enzymes that would dissolve the reefs and any life dwelling within. The mutant would then suck the liquified organic soup back into it's body as nourishment. Soon, the sea beast would find it increasingly difficult to locate prey in waters that would otherwise be teeming with life. Unknown to the simple creature, another mutant was feeding in these waters and they would soon come into conflict.
On July 4th, the monster's quest for food forced it into increasingly shallow water where human activity was greater. The creature laid motionless just off shore in a state of rest when a sailboat collided with the sea monster's armored outer skin. The crew of the boat at first believed they had run aground until the water shook with a terrifying growl from beneath the waves. Disturbed from it's rest, the Kraken raised one of it's powerful arms above the water, nearly capsizing the boat. The arm was then brought down upon the boat, crushing it and the crew like a hand swatting a fly. The monster's tubed feet analyzed the remains of the boat through touch and quickly determined the vessel to be inedible, however the bodies of the crew possessed the same succulent taste it had long been searching for.
The creature was on the move once again, coming closer and closer to the shore until the sharp spines on it's skin where visible on the surface. The sandy beaches quaked as the massive organism could sense hundreds of prey items in the water and on land. Stopping right above a large crowd of swimmers, the beast reared up out of the water using it's arms as supports. The swimmers immediately panicked and tried to swim to shore. Some made it to relative safety, but the rest where consumed when the sea monster deployed it's stomach like a net, capturing dozens to trapped swimmers who where then pulled into the mutant's body to be digested.
Aware that some had escaped, the colossus continued towards the beach, it's arms lined with probing tubed feet slithering ashore like hungry serpents. The rest of the monster's body soon followed, resembling a mountain rising from the depths. Crowds of fleeing beachgoers where snatched by the starfish's tubed feet and brought towards the mouth where they where devoured. The sea beast carved an enormous trench across the beach as it made it's way inland towards the boardwalk. The beast's massive arms smashed aside anything in their way, splintering wood and crumpling metal was it went.
Suddenly the beast was struck several times with high explosive projectiles from behind, startling and irritating the mutant who responded with a thundering growl. In the distance several naval vessels formed a perimeter around the stretch of beach where the creature was attacking. The ships fired another salvo of cannonfire which impacted against the sea monster's skin, this time forcing it to return back to the water. The creature rapidly crawled across the ocean floor towards the nearest ship, rearing it's arms up and grabbing ahold of the bottom of the ship before slowly hoisting the rest of it's body up.
The armored arms of the starfish slowly crept up the side of the aircraft carrier, probing the runway for threats while knocking aside parked aircraft and equipment. Personnel onboard the ship attempted to repel the monster with small-arms fire, but found their low-caliber ammunition unable to penetrate the sea beast's armored skin. Suddenly the beast grumbled aloud as a loud crunch was heard behind it. One of it's arms had been torn off by another mutant, The Leviathan. The enormous shark swallowed the arm whole. Just as the shark dove underwater, the starfish was then hit by a torpedoes barrage by a submarine The Leviathan had been fighting earlier.
The torpedoes exploded against the mutant' body, spurring it to lift more of itself onto the deck until nearly it's entire body was sprawled across the runway. Just as the shark lunged again, the starfish reared up and blasted the fish with digestive acids from it's mouth. The shark recoiled and thrashed as the acid ate away it's flesh, diving back underwater. With it's soft underside now exposed,a nearby ship fired it's cannons at the echinoderm. Where previously the explosive shells failed to hurt the beast, here they punched clean through it's underside and exited out the sea beast's back. The starfish roared aloud as the cannonfire blasted off a huge chunk of it's central body with an arm still attached.
The severed arm and the starfish both collapsed into the water, sinking rapidly towards the bottom. The starfish thrashed around as the shark returned again, ramming into the starfish's underside and biting down on the mass of tubed feet writhing around it's mouth. Like a dog with a toy, the shark ripped several of the echinoderm's tubed feet away, gnashing them apart with it's teeth. Before the shark could disengage however, the titanic starfish wrapped it's remaining arms around the fish's body and squeezed tightly. The echinoderm could feel it's attacker's body slowly beginning to break, however it also felt the shark's razor sharp scales sawing through it's arms as it struggled in the echinoderm's grip.
After sinking for what felt like forever, the two beasts crashed onto the ocean floor while still locked in a fight to the death. Rocks where smashed aside, silt clouded the water and reefs where destroyed as these monsters where hellbent on killing each other. As they waged their undersea war, the submarine from earlier closed in on their position. The eye-like organs on the end of the starfish's arms could sense the approach of another combatant, but could do nothing while it was being assaulted by the shark. The submarine fired it's torpedoes at the monsters who where conveniently right on top of each other. The explosions of the torpedoes clouded the water with bubbles, more silt, and blood.
Through the cloud of debris arms, spines, fins and jaws could still be seen thrashing and writhing. Another volley of torpedoes collided with the creatures, and all movement ceased. After the sediment and blood cleared, large chunks of the starfish floated around in the clearing water. The larger pieces drifted to the bottom while the smaller ones remained floating. Large pieces of flesh belonging to The Leviathan where also present, all oozing blood into the water. It was assumed that both creatures had been annihilated in the barrage, however there was still a level of uncertainty due to the lack of larger remains. The naval group originally meant to destroy The Leviathan was reinforced and was tasked with destroying the two mutants should they return, or any new mutants that spring up.
Deep beneath the depths, far away from where it was originally lost, the arm of the starfish that was severed by cannonfire crawled across the ocean floor, dragging with it a large portion of the original creature's central disk. Small stumps had already begun to grow from the disk, indicating that someday soon, The Kraken would return...
