History:

The undisputed brute of the four offspring of The Progenitor, The Mauler's titanic strength proved to be the bane of armor everywhere. Tanks, trucks, jeeps and other vehicles where pulled apart like toys in the grasp of this behemoth. The Mauler would often soak up damage from the human military occupying Ashdowne, Pennsylvania while it's siblings attacked from the flanks.

When the four creatures managed to escape the perimeter around the abandoned town, The Mauler was the easiest by far to track. It's slow, sluggish speed combined with it's mass meant that there would be plenty of indicators of where the mutant was going. The US Army did manage to catch up to The Mauler several times and attempted to bring it down with bazookas and light machine guns, but the creature would make quick work of both infantry and vehicles.

The army couldn't field anything with substantial firepower to destroy the mutant, as most vehicles light and agile enough to escape the creature's grasp could not carry weapons powerful enough to hurt it. Tanks, while well armed, where to slow and would be torn apart. Air assaults from helicopters where also tried, but the dense forest the monster was traveling through made accurate strikes all but impossible. So it was decided to trap the creature to keep it in one place so the army could bring their full might down upon it.

A nearby river was chosen as the site where the trap would be sprung. Once the brute would be lured there, large fishing nets would be dropped from helicopters above to entangle the monster while napalm was dropped on top of it. With the nets keeping it in place, it was hoped that the napalm would be enough to incinerate the creature. Any fires caused by the napalm would simply be covered up as a forest fire. At the moment, the public was not fully aware that other mutants where alive and roaming, therefor secrecy was imperative to prevent a panic.

After goading The Mauler to the river with infantry, the nets where dropped as well as the napalm. The mutant thrashed and screamed as the napalm seared it's flesh, filling the air with and overpowering stench that made some sick. Blisters and boils on the creature's body ruptured and popped, the pus within lighting ablaze as well. The monstrous creature rolled around in the water in an attempt to extinguish the flames and ease it's pain. Infantry fired at the creature now that it was vulnerable, 5.56mm ammunition tearing through exposed soft tissue and causing severe internal damage.

After several moments of flailing, the behemoth's movements finally ceased and it released a wheezing sigh as it slumped into the water. Small tongues of fire still crackled on the beast's steaming, charred body. The stench of burning flesh got worse as infantry cautiously approached the body with their weapons aimed forward. After some poking and prodding without retaliation, the humans determined that the creature was dead.

However as they celebrated prematurely, the mutant's charred skin began to bubble and twitch with cellular activity. Hideous wounds caused by the flames became covered in scar tissue, fragile gills that where burned off imperfectly regrew in seconds. The monster's body began to stir with life, slowly rising from the river water behind it's unsuspecting would-be killers. The creature's entire body was covered in scar tissue patterned after the horrific burns it received at the hands of the humans.

With a mighty swipe of it's forelimb, the monster broke the bodies of men as though they where but twigs, leaving nothing but bloodied pulps. Grabbing a broken tree, the monstrosity hurled it at the circling helicopter, missing the cockpit but hitting and destroying the rotary blades. The aircraft spiraled to the ground and exploded as the beast howled in victory. Exhausted from constantly fighting and being burned alive, the mutant followed the river to deeper waters so it could rest...
