Location of origin: Pacific Ocean

Date encountered: August 29th, 1978

Total height: 8 meters (26ft)

Total weight: 770 metric tons

Threat level: High

Aggression level: Very High

Known mutations:

- Necrotic gases cause nearby materiel to rapidly decay and corrode. Gases are extremely poisonous to organic life.

- Necrotizing fluid can be sprayed from any part of it's body. Contact with the fluid causes rapid decomposition of organic matter into a black sludge. Non-organic materials will rapidly corrode and deteriorate.

- Can discharge globs of rotting tissue filled with volatile gases. The masses of tissue will explode after a short time, spraying bone shrapnel and necrotizing fluid in every direction.

- Overpowering stench of decay is strong enough to cause sickness

- Able to absorb any kind of organic matter, living or dead, to grow in size and repair itself.

- Able to extend pseudopods to interact with it's environment or attack threats.

- Fleshy composition renders it almost immune to physical damage. Fire and other incendiary attacks can cause permanent damage.
History:

To this day, the true origin of this bizarre creature is still a mystery. Samples taken of the creature seemed to indicate it was a sort of gestalt life-form, not unlike a bacterial colony. Everything else about the monster was entirely unknown, such as how it was able to assimilate foreign tissue or how it was able to produce powerful decomposing fluids. The earliest encounter with this creature happened by complete accident. On a hot August day, the fishing vessel "Yahata Maru" was sailing the calm waters of the Pacific Ocean near Japan when something large became entangled in their nets. Believing that they may have caught debris or perhaps some kind of large shark, the nets were reeled in from the dark abyss in order to determine the cause. As soon as the nets emerged from the water, an ungodly stench emerged with them that nearly caused the crew tending to the nets to faint and fall overboard. The foul-smelling object oozed green and yellow fluids from it's ragged and sun-bleached surface.

The mystery object was hauled out of the water and onto the deck of the ship where the crew gathered around to examine what it was. At first glance it appeared to be some kind of dead whale, judging by the exposed skull and flippers. However several fish and other sea creatures were lodged in it's surface as though they were glued to the mass of rotting flesh. The stench was becoming unbearable, and some of the fishermen began to vomit and feel sick. Fearing that the foul carcass would ruin their catch, the captain of the ship immediately ordered the corpse to be thrown overboard. The nets were raised again, and the foul-smelling cadaver was dumped back into it's watery grave. Several days later, another ship, this time a fishing trawler, collided with a large mass in the Pacific Ocean. The crew scrambled to the deck and looked over the sides of the ship to see what they had hit. The water was murky with white, green and yellow fluids that foamed around the sides of the ship. The ship appeared to be lodged in a huge mass of rotting flesh. Believing them to have hit a dead whale, the crew used oars and poles to try and push the mass off of the boat and free their vessel.

The objects punched through the messy object without actually dislodging it. After a while of attempting to remove the object from the ship, the crew found that the tools they were using had badly deteriorated: Wooden poles had rotted into mush, metal objects had rusted and become extremely brittle to where they could be broken by hand. Suddenly, the mass began to submerge seemingly on it's own and begin to move. The mass had completely dislodged itself from the front of the vessel and was now moving away from the trawler while hovering just beneath the water's surface before disappearing from sight. Upon returning to port, the crew of the trawler had noticed that the bow of their ship had deteriorated and was pitted with holes exactly where they had gotten stuck on the strange mass of dead flesh. Tiny ribbons of foul-smelling tissue were still present, quickly attracting the attention of flies. One of the crewmen carefully collected the tissue samples and placed them in a plastic bag in order to send them to a friend who worked as a marine biologist at the Tokyo University of Marine Science and Technology, hoping to identify what exactly the mass was.

The scientists at the university examined the sample and made numerous discoveries: the sample was home to an unknown type of marine microbial colony that seemed to be "absorbing" the tissue around it. The tissue itself was an oddity, as it contained DNA from a multitude of different marine life all absorbed by these microbes. The scientists performed numerous tests on the microbes, finding that they could absorb almost any organic matter introduced to them and thus allowing the colony to grow in size. The scientists quickly discovered that any materiel that didn't boast considerable durability was quickly broken down by the colony. Even pieces of meat that were fed to it were rapidly decomposed and absorbed into the colony. Given it's ability to break down almost anything it touches, the scientists postulated that this organism could cause considerable damage to fishing in the area, especially given that these were mere scraps of a much larger organism that was still out there.

These discoveries gained the attention of the US Army, and military officials approached the university in order to acquire one of the tissue samples for their own research. The university agreed and gave them a cryogenically preserved sample that was quickly shipped back to the US mainland to be studied more extensively by Black Mountain. The US Military suspected that these microbial organisms might be a sign of mutant activity in the Pacific Ocean and quickly scrambled search vessels to locate the main mass and assess it's threat level, and destroy it if need be. These searches would prove unsuccessful, as the mass was never found despite days of searching. The creature itself was crawling along the ocean floor, it's amorphous form extending pseudopods to crawl along the sand. Any creature that strayed too close was snatched by tendrils of rotting flesh and pulled writhing into the decaying mass where it was then absorbed. Little by little, the entity began to grow in size as it feasted on both the living and the dead.

The monster wouldn't be sighted again until a week later when it was spotted on the surface off the port city of Kashima. The creature was rapidly making it's way towards shore by using flipper-like pseudopods to row itself across the water like a massive ship. Fishing boats and dingeys were pushed aside by the huge waves created by the rotting monster, leaving behind trails of putrid fluids in it's wake. The JSDF was quickly notified of the creature's presence and scrambled to intercept the creature as it made landfall. The creature retracted it's flippers and now crawled along the ground like a giant slug. Anyone caught in it's immediate path were snatched up by slithering tendrils and pulled into the rotting mass kicking and screaming until their cries of horror were silenced. The creature was indiscriminate in who it fed on; men, women, children, animals. Everything was fair game for this hideous creature.

Civilians who attempted to hide inside of buildings found that the creature would smother the building with it's enormous mass and allow parts of itself to ooze into nooks and crannies of the structure to seek out it's hiding prey and quickly assimilate them. The victims absorbed by the rancid abomination could be seen fused to the creature's surface in badly decomposed states as it feasted on their flesh and bones. Their decaying skulls, still covered in melting flesh, screamed in silent agony as though the creature was animating them like grotesque puppets. At last, the JSDF arrived bringing tanks and infantry in hopes of slaying this abomination and ending it's reign of terror before it could cause any further carnage.

Rifles clapped and tank cannons roared as a hail of projectiles pelted the rotting beast; bullets passed clean through the creature's flesh and exited without harm. Tank rounds exploded on contact, launching a hail of fleshy bits and liquids in the air. The assault didn't seem to deter the creature from it's path of destruction at all, instead it seemed to have drawn the creature's attention to them. The slug-like monstrosity crept towards the soldiers as they continued to fire at the creature with no effect. The whale skull  on the "head" of the creature opened it's jaws and revealed a large cluster of yellow pustules that twitched and writhed with life. Without warning, several streams of transparent fluid sprayed forth from between the pustules and showered several of the infantry men.

The effects were immediate, and the soldiers showered by the substance quickly began to decompose while they were still alive. The men screamed as their skin turned a putrid green and black, sloughing off of their bodies as a thick black sludge. Their weapons rotted and corroded until they fell apart in their hands before the soldier's bodies were reduced to messy bones laying in a puddle of black sludge. Those who were fortunate to be spared this fate quickly fled from the creature towards the tanks to use as cover. Another spray of this horrific substance showered one of the tanks so thoroughly that the vehicle dripped and oozed with the fluid. The thick armor of the tanks was no match for such an attack, as rust and corrosion quickly spread across it's surface. Parts crumbled off the vehicle, and a thick black sludge that was once the crew oozed out of holes in the rusted frame.

The JSDF recognized that this attack wasn't going well, and ordered all remaining units to retreat and regroup so they could coordinate their next attack. The remaining troops eagerly fled from the horrific creature that continued to spray large volumes of decomposing fluids at the retreating humans to ensure that they would not return. The beast then turned it's attention back to the city and resumed it's feeding frenzy. However before it could resume it's rampage, the colony sensed the presence of another creature in it's immediate vicinity. Slowly turning itself around, the creature came face-to-face with the Lake Kasumiguara Monster.

The Lake Kasumiguara monster eyed it’s quarry which had not quite been what it had expected. The free meal it was expecting was instead a living creature that was probably not going to allow itself to become prey. The mass stopped in its tracks upon detecting the presence of another living organism of similar size. The grotesque abomination pulsated and writhed as though every cell of it’s putrescent form was alive and examining the creature was standing before it. A large cluster of yellow nodes on the “head” of the mass appeared to function as the “eyes” of the creature, and were shielded by the bleached skull and jaws of a whale. Without warning, the mass sprayed a transparent fluid from the eye sockets of the whale skull imbedded in it that splashed onto the Lake Kasumiguara monster. Almost immediately, the amphibian’s skin began to turn a sickly black-green and soon sloughed off of it’s body in a smelly black sludge. Taken aback by the creature’s sudden assault, the Lake Kasumiguara charged at the vile mass as the liquified flesh quickly regenerated.

The salamander bit down on the sun-bleached rotten flesh of the mass and tore off a huge chunk of tissue that seemed to have no ill effect on the creature. Maggots and hagfish slithered through grooves and holes in the gaping injury. Retaliation was swift, and the mass extended and raised a large pseudopod that had several meter-long tentacles of a giant squid fused to it. The creature lashed out with the appendage and used the squid tentacles wrapped around the neck of the salamander. Despite their decomposing appearance, the tentacles where incredibly strong and were sufficient enough to yank the amphibian towards the mass which opened it’s skull jaws. The jaws clamped down hard on the Lake Kasumiguara monster’s head, and tiny tendrils of rotting tissue slithered their way up the amphibian’s flesh and began to fuse themselves to it’s skin. Bit by bit, the creature began to assimilate it’s amphibian prey until the behemoth grabbed the lower jaw bones of the mass and pried them open before forcibly pulling it’s head out of the disgusting quagmire of decay. The tentacles easily tore free and fell off of the amphibian as cellular regeneration cast off the dead tissue until it was normal again. Still ensnared by the squid tentacles, the mass attempted to pull the Kasumiguara monster back in to assimilate it but the amphibian responded quickly by biting off the tentacles. The appendages severed from each other with a sickening wet snap and oozed pale yellow fluid. The decomposing abomination reacted just as quickly by spraying more decomposing fluid as well as fleshy orbs that were covered in assimilated fish and other sea life.

As the decomposing fluid began it’s foul work, the fleshy orbs exploded with a noxious green gas and a hail of shrapnel made of bone and cartilage. The projectiles sheared through the rotting flesh of the Kasumiguara monster and causing further damage. However in spite of these fetid assaults, the damage was temporary as the amphibian rapidly healed from the effects of the fluid. A swipe of it’s paddle-like tail smashed into the side of the creature’s whale-skull head with sufficient force to rupture the yellow pods. The mass trembled and released huge quantities of methane gas from holes that formed in it’s hideous body, as though imitating a scream of anguish. Pressing it’s advantage the Kasumiguara monster rammed into the mass, displacing much of it and pushing it into the ruins of a burning building. The air filled with the nauseating stench of burning flesh as the creature released another blast of methane gas and raised it’s “head” to the creature, spraying a thick yellow fluid from the ruptured pods nestled between the whale jaws. The mass quickly reformed itself and attacked with a pseudopod consisting of snapping shark jaws that clamped down on the Kasumiguara monster’s arm. The amphibian buried it’s free hand into the pseudopod and ripped out large chunks of gelatinous dead flesh along with several of the long-dead sharks that composed it.

With a tug, the amphibian pulled off the rest of the appendage from it’s body before casting it into the burning building wreckage. The remains of the pseudopod shrieked and writhed in the flames as it slowly burned to ash. The Kasumiguara monster did a double take as it noticed the flesh burning in the fire, and the creature’s adverse response simply to being pushed into burning wreckage. The amphibian’s deceptively primitive brain began to work out how to defeat this creature by exposing it to fire. However it was not the only one who had observed this weakness: the JSDF had also taken note and began to ready incendiary weapons. The battle had now reached the refinery near the port. Plenty of flammable materiel in this area and thus plenty of opportunity to destroy this creature once and for all. However the battle was not going as the amphibian had thought, and the necrotic mass was overwhelming it with one relentless attack after another. It’s regeneration was being taxed to the limit from constantly having to heal from the mass’s plethora of decay-based attacks. The monstrosity raised it’s putrid body up until it absolutely dwarfed the Kasumiguara monster. The Kasumiguara monster backed away from the undead monster, somewhat intimidated by the display of size. The mass then allowed itself to lean forward and fall upon the Kasumiguara monster and smother it. The two creatures smashed into a large refinery tower, knocking down the network of pipes and valves that connected it to vast oil drums.

The Kasumiguara monster thrashed and clawed at the rotting flesh that surrounded and attacked it. Vile tendrils slithered out from the mass and imbedded themselves into the amphibian’s flesh, slowly spreading from the point of contact and once again attempting to assimilate the creature. Just when it seemed like the end was nigh for the Lake Kasumiguara Monster, the rotting mass of the creature writhed and retreated. The light of day hit the amphibian and air flooded it’s lungs. When it was able to regain it’s senses and heal, the amphibian looked over to see the creature engulfed in flames. The roar of fighter planes overhead also caught the amphibian’s attention. Soon several small projectiles fell from the bellies of the planes and landed on the creature’s putrid form. On contact, the projectiles exploded in bright fireballs that further immolated the creature. Geysers of flame erupted from several areas of the monster’s body, methane gas that it had released before ignited as soon as it made contact with it’s burning exterior. The monster burned from the inside out, even the sea-life that it had assimilated and visible on it’s exterior seemed to be writing and screaming in silent agony. Flakes of charred white flesh fell from the burning monstrosity like a grotesque snowfall. The creature attempted to crawl towards the water that beckoned it with the promise of salvation.

It’s attempt to escape was cut short when the Lake Kasumiguara monster sprung into action and buried it’s hands into the charred decaying mess, grabbing anything it could get a grip on. The creature was desperate now, willing to self-mutilate in order to escape from it’s attackers. The monster expelled the burning parts of it’s body, leaving them to die as it sought out the safety of the water. Another volley of bombs fell upon both creatures, setting them both ablaze. The Kasumiguara monster was far better off than the rotting creature which continued to burn, now a living fireball that slowly began to cease activity. The flames crackled and the creature’s body burned, leaving behind bones and teeth of the various creatures it had absorbed. All that remained now was the massive whale skeleton that comprised the bulk of it’s body.
