Here is a picture of Cornelius Augustus von Hamtinburg with Cyrene of Sal'ma as his personal lieutenant during the Terran Wars. Before giving out an order to exterminate the Edanians, he sought to gain their trust and have them converted into Gottwienism once Terra was annexed and that the Germanican tribes were unified. He made a slave girl named Cyrene into his bodyguard, seeing promise great enough for him and the Technolist Party, since she herself was capable of persuading her kind into joining their cause. In 2054, as Earth was finally absorbed by the revolutionaries, the rest of the Germanican Republic was taken over by they military with a huge number of senators and aristocrats being killed off, along with fascists, communists, anarchists, foreigners, humans, pagans, and Romani. By the end of the war, two days before gaining absolute power, the young slave master offered Cyrene a choice to either gaining salvation for the Edanians by joining the new regime or be exterminated. Horrified of the dark desires of her former owner, as well as the war crimes she committed, Cyrene refused and left the Technolist party. As a result, her response was viewed by her former slave master as a sign of betrayal, leading into his genocidal crusade against the Edanians. While Cyrene was exiled, he then proclaimed himself "Fuhrer-Kaiser" of the newly established Germanican Empire in 2057, seeking to exterminate those in which he claimed to be inferior to his people.

This pretty much makes a mark of betrayal in the story as Cornelius becomes more obsessed with power, perfection, and knowledge, causing him to become a tyrannical figure while Cyrene is seen as a traitor, along with her kind, the Edanians.
