Description
Kotobukiya's 1/100 scale Metal Gear REX. I'm surprised I'm building it too. I started working on it 1/18/2013, and I am this far done with it.This is a sponsored build for Collection DX sent directly from Kotobukiya. Review coming soon!

Hi, I got my REX yesterday and it looks awesome! I haven't begun building it, because I'd like to know how hard it is to disassemble the REX after it's been build? Because it would be nice to first build it and paint it afterwards because this is my first model kit... Do you think that's possible or would you recommend painting it during assembling?

This kit really looks fine without paint but I would recommend that because you want to paint it, you do it as you build. As far as taking it apart is concerned, the model is for the most part modular at its joints thanks to the polycaps in its construction. You can disassemble it at these points and it's relatively easy to do, but when it comes to the finite assemblies: "further dis-assembly beyond this point is not recommended.'

Thanks for the fast reply! I hoped that it would be easy to disassemble but didn't think it would be possible. But thanks for the confirmation It's nice that it can be taken apart at the joints. You said it looks fine without paint. I was thinking only painting the details like you did on your model. Do you think it's necessary to also paint the flat colors (aside from the camouflage, I'm not planning on doing that)?

If you're filling in color to match the bare plastic, a flat would blend better. As far as my work on this kit, I pretty much just did the panel lining. I used a GM-01 Gundammarker, but a good .25mm Micron pen will do just as fine.
I would strongly suggest you wash the runners before you do any detailing. What I did was I took a spray bottle and mixed some dish soap and warm water to make a wash spray and rinsed them off. It'll clean off the residual oil from the injection molding machine and help the ink/paint stick better.

Fortunately no, there is no prepainted version of the koto Rex model. I simply panel lined it. The model does have a layout for the DIY camo color scheme.

So far as I know it should be available at most online hobby shops, like hlj.com or bigbadtoystore.com good luck!
I just posted more photos online with my review on Collection DX. check the description for an updated link.

This is a "Two-weeks-to-Deadline" build for a review, but I am detailing it and doing the necessary paint work as I go along. I even painted the 1/100 scale figurines for the review. The model really is geared towards a more skilled audience to give REX its camouflage pattern.
