Miles 'Tails' Prower

Born with an abnormality of two tails he can spin independently, Miles was born to the military family of war hero Amadeus Prower and the outspoken Rosemary. From a very young age Miles was indoctrinated into fervent Mobian discipline and doctrine, learning to survive and fight and to hate humanity and weakness in general.
In his few off hours he took up a hobby that eventually came to enjoy of tinkering with machinery, although his father eschewed this interest since it might be perceived he wished to become a rank and file mechanic rather than a warrior like his lineage would destine him to be.
He ironically became friends with Sonic by attempting to arrest him for a typically ostentatious prank (breaking into the royal residence itself) but Sonic convinced him to 'hang out' for the first time in his life at Chuck's and from then on in the back of his mind Miles struggled between his loyalty to his family honor...but a desire to sometimes loosen his strictness and cold appraisal of the world.

During the fall of Mobotropolis Tails tried to assist his father in the defense of the city but a falling piece of masonry smashed him in the head. Sonic dragged him to safety and was surprised that when he came to his demeanor had almost entirely changed from a clipped precise and deliberate solider...to an almost childlike and friendly attitude. This came with uncharacteristic cowardice and uncertainty, but it also made him much more approachable and empathetic.
While living in exile in Knothole he fell back on the one part of his past he could recall clearly: his love of mechanics.
Tails singlehandedly built a functioning biplane he christened The Tornado as well as a number of other devices combining salvaged scrap and stolen tech from the Robotnik regime.

In later years the two halves of Tails' personality melded into one. At times he's a kindly, furtive, and inventive fellow but at others he has the capacity to call on a keenness and even cruel focus in rebel actions that surprises his allies. Tails continually asks himself which side of him is truly 'him' but his constant companion Sonic assures him 'both' (mostly to derail what threatens to be a philosophical conversation)
