7.62 x 54R is NOT a pleasant ammo to shoot, a friend of mine had a black eye with a Dragunov SVD

I believe it, the only gun that is relatively pleasant chambered in that round is the Mossin Nagant. But it's a relatively heavy rifle with a long barrel.
