Melina is often labelled as ‘insane’, but it is often disputed if she actually is. She has a cold, calculating outlook on life, and often uses shadow to hide herself. Because of the ‘Mental Upload’ education, Melina received an upload that gave her excellent administration skills, which she uses to great effect for Echo Co. and before that, in the orphanage where she met Kelly.

Mel lives and works in Echo Co. Tower, a large skyscraper in Angel City. She often transforms into the monstrous Switchblade during Jessie Castles meetings with the Crime lords of Angel City and it’s island. Mel/Switchblade hide in heavy shadows waiting for crime lord to backchat their boss so they can rip him to pieces.

Melina also developed a obsession with killing her former girlfriend and best friend, Kelly Castle.
This was because Melina believes Kelly abandoned her inside a burning building after she’d been wounded. In truth, Kelly was being held back from saving her. Melina developed her pathologic hatred soon after. When alone, Melina often wonders if Kelly would take her back. As Jessie is Kelly’s twin sister, Melina is constantly reminded of her best friend.
Melina has also become a 'human symbiote', as she forsake her humanity to bond full with Switchblade. Thus they can never seperate.
Melina also has a very slight Russian accent. But she can switch from English to Russian speaking very quickly.

Switchblade is a sadistic, sarcastic monster symbiote that bonded with Mel during one of Jessie Castle‘s experiments. He often agrees with Melina on most things, but mostly just annoys his host as much as he can. He also has a caring spot for his host that he rarely shows.
For Melina’s 18th birthday, he forcefully took over his host and took her to the highest building in the city, so Melina could see the view. When Mel asked Switchblade if he cared about her, the monster symbiote told her, “I was only being nice because its your birthday”.
