Description
Length: 10-13ft
Weight: 1,500-1,600 lbs
Diet: Fish,Crustaceans,Mollusks,Clams,Mussels,Eden reed fossils
Habitat: The surrounding water of Eden (Primarily the Shallows, the lush reefs booming with life, kelp forests, and other environments. However, it should be noted they are wary of certain areas such as the open waters and the deep where they could possibly be exposed to large open ocean predators or the horrors of the deep but in a pod, they become bolder due to safety in numbers)
Info/Behaviour: The Eden Shellcracker Dolphin is species of dolphin that despite anatomical similarities with prehistoric specimens in the fossil record such as kentriodontids are in fact are more directly related to the common bottlenose dolphin and modern cetaceans. Eden Shellcracker Dolphins are very interesting creatures engaging in a number of activities were never previously observed with their cousins. A few of the observed and documented behaviours and emotions are. Preparation, play (which isn't an uncommon thing seen in cetaceans such as dolphins),displaying emotions such as joy, sadness, anger, jealousy, hate, embarrassment, love, self recognition, advanced problem solving, negotiation and even holding grudges with a member of their species or even an individual from another species.
They mainly travel in pods in groups of 12 or 13 but have been observed to form super pods with other pods on some occasions. These dolphins being considerable much bigger than their cousins makes them capable of fighting off certain predators their own or even double their size and in a pod, they are capable of taking on bigger threats if needed. In one documented case a male Shellcracker Dolphin lost one of its pectoral fins to an Eden Xiphactinus while protecting a mother and her calf that were in the pod. Months later the same pod encountered the same Xiphactinus and without hesitation brutally attacked and killed the predatory fish, ripped it apart, then ate chunks of it seemingly getting payback for it attacking a member of their pod.
Shellcracker Dolphins have been seen traveling speeds of around 45 to 50 mph thanks to their powerful tail. They have also been seen leaping out of the water and jumping at a height of 15 to 25 ½ ft in the air and usually snatching airborne prey or just for fun. Like all cetaceans, they retain their ability to echolocate which allows them to scan their environment and quickly get a detailed and accurate sonic mapping of their surroundings and any potential prey or threat in their vicinity.
Like the name suggests it possesses a set of powerful jaws and teeth strong enough to crack the toughest of shells and carapaces of any animal it sees as prey which is mostly consisted of shellfish like crabs, lobsters, and other crustaceans along with clams and mussels that they crack open to get to their meaty insides. One study has even seen Shellcracker Dolphins working with the native human inhabitants of Eden. This tribe, in particular, specializes in hunting on the water with boats similar to ancient Polynesian explorers which they are theorized to be descended from. They have a relationship with these animals that is seemingly on a spiritual level. According to them, the dolphins are their relatives reincarnated as the dolphin and they deserve respect, love, and care as people give to each other. The dolphins will even let some humans ride their back if they trust each other enough and will even save people when they are in danger. They split what they catch and the Dolphins will even bring gifts to the natives and the natives will craft little toys for them to play with when they are bored and play with them in the water.
These creatures
They are just
amazing
I wonder what they think about us?
Facts: Males have the black markings as shown in the picture, females lack these

*pats back* Well done!
My one complaint though is the teeth. They were meant to look kinda like saber-teeth (not as huge or noticeable as those found in the cats) towards the front that would be used to pick up/un-wedge crustaceans and hard-shelled mollusks and then large, molar-like teeth towards the back for actual crushing; they were meant to specifically specialize in shellfish, unlike their ancestors which only ate fish. But I suppose by this point I can't really make any complaints if the animals are actually being made!
Also, that Xiphactinus that they killed? Yeah, the dolphins didn't eat it. They wounded it enough so that it died a slow and painful death from loss of blood and they swam away without eating the carcass. While it's quite probably true that the pod targeted the individual for revenge, if they eat the body then it could just as well be purely for food, with the fact that the Xiphactinus they attacked already having had interactions with the dolphins before being coincidental. When I brought up this little story/tidbit in the original post, it was meant to be clear enough so that there wouldn't be any confusion or doubt that the dolphins had a concept of revenge and were more than capable of acting upon it if given the opportunity.
But that's in the past. Any ideas who's up next? *crosses fingers for Collosotitan*

Aw, no Collosotitan . . . but hey, the giant pangolin is up next (I think I gave it a different name, because I'm pretty sure there already is such a thing as a giant pangolin)!
Ah, I see. Glad that's cleared up!

CreaturemasterProds In reply to geneticmonster03 [2019-06-17 00:09:18 +0000 UTC]
Ah, yes, now I remember. Quick little tip, the Titan Pangolin isn't as long as you might think it is. It's more rounded, kinda like a porcupine/blowfish, since it's too big to really need to curl up (not sure if it even could). They're tail's are short in comparison to their ancestors since they're quadrupedal and too heavy to climb in trees (even trees as big as those fig trees whose name I can't be bothered to remember right now). They're most distinctive trait (for the mothers at least) is that they dig a hole for their young to sleep in and then sleep on top of the hole with their head and tail tucked down into said hole and their scales thrust outward so that predators have nothing to grab onto - nothing that won't cut them, anyway.
Eh, I suppose I can wait for the Collosotitan. I'm just glad someone's breathing life into my ideas instead of the other way around for once!

geneticmonster03 In reply to CreaturemasterProds [2019-06-17 00:26:26 +0000 UTC]
well i made them keep the tail
not only for defense
but for offense
they have sharp scales that they can slash at predators with and rattle it like a rattle snake or at least like this
youtu.be/hoPUc1-WRzo?t=1954
but louder
the ones at the end are pointed and sharp for defense
hey happy to do it
its mutually beneficial in the best ways
and the collosotitan
ill try not to mess it up
since you like it so much
