Description Edits:

Noticed a few little things that need to be fixed. For some reason, when I recolored this, the light beams stopped working in certain places.

***********************************************

I said I'd get it done and I did!
I went back and reworked an old image that I did several years ago. I am much happier with this version then I am the old one, though I intend to leave the old image up as a comparison of how far I have come in my drawing and photoshop skills.

I think this time around I was able to set a much darker, more sober mood with the lighting contrast and the reflections.

Conversion, inking, painting, lighting and effects done by me.

Original pose referance by Ryo Takamisaki, artist of Megaman NT Warrior.
And obviously X does not belong to me. X belongs to Capcom! Whoot!

Thank you very much! Unfortunalty, I don't know if I'll ever get the chance to tell the story.

Glad you think so. I spent a lot of time trying to fix certain details and set a darker mood.

And I think you did a good job of that. I also like that you changed the cuts on X's leg so that they reveal leaking oil instead of skin. Makes more sense to me.

Genisay In reply to Stareon [2009-08-24 23:14:37 +0000 UTC]

wellll.... its more like blood, rather then oil. But Reploids don't bleed red.
In the RP I play, some of our Reploids are called 'Fleshed' types and 'Exo' types.
X is a Fleshed type in the RP, meaning that he has skin (or Synthflesh) under his armor.
I was trying to get the Reploid blood to show up a bit better than in the first image though, to further emphasize his wounds.

They bled red in X4
Ah, well...you know what I meant: artifical circulatory fluids and stuff

I don't remember that. Where was that? Or was that the scientists in Zero's dream?

I guess I'll have to watch the cut scenes again.
Oh well, its accurate by the RP its for anyways.

Stareon In reply to Genisay [2009-08-27 04:09:49 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, there was red blood in Zero's dream. There was also a scene in X's story where Double slashes open a couple of hapless Reploids. They bled red too.

Huh. Well, I guess that would actually be the only game where they actually show any blood, period.
The remake of the first game only had sparks, no blood at all.

You gotta love Capcom and their lack of consistency.

Lol. I was just looking back over this and had to laugh at us having such a long conversation about Capcom's messups and when and where they actually did certain things

Yeah, my biggest complaint is that they keep jipping the X series on a good, continual story line. The X series has so much potential for story, but it keeps stagnating! Oh well, guess it leaves the fans more room to make up their own details and theories.
Plenty of fodder for the Helion Nova RP, that's for sure.

I guess that's because X5 was supposed to be the last game, but then they continued for another 5 games anyway.

Ah, well. There's always fanfiction.

Yeah, there is. But I have also always been curious as to how Capcom would have finished it.
A few of the games that came after 5 were kind of lame, but as far as I think, at least one good thing came of it.... I wouldn't trade Axl for anything! I wasn't sure about how he would change things at first, but I loves the little rascal now! They managed to add him in such a way that he didn't take anything away from X and Zero's team, but instead added to it.

I don't really have any ideas about how the series should end, but it should obviously resolve the X8 cliffhanger (y'know, the one where the jewel on Axl's helmet breaks) and gracefully tie into the Zero series.

I agree that some of the post-X5 games weren't that great. X6 was all right (hard as hell, though), I haven't played X7, and Command Mission was mediocre, but X8 was pretty good. I LOVED the lighting in the CG cutscenes.

As for Axl, I'm actually pretty neutral towards him. He is kinda cute though. :]

I actually saw the X series as being able to get an alternate ending that didn't tie into the Zero series. I always saw the Zero series as mostly being seperate from the X series after X6 (I think that was the one).
I believe it was in X6 that you could get a secret ending for Zero where he has himself sealed away in a capsale to deal with the Maverick Virus fragement he posesses.
I didn't get how that could work at first, seeing as Zero was in the next game, but shortly after that game, the Z series was started. It was kind of like a preview ending that would explain whey Ciel found Zero asleep so many years later. I figured it was at that point that the story lines for the X series and Z series diverged from each other.
Seeing as the big differace in the 'time lines' is that in one Zero is not around for the finale to the Sigma Wars, and in the other he is, I've never really considered them to be linked to each other after X6.

This is a very nice improvement and a sight of potentials coming your way with how you apply much more in the detail and digital effects of your work. I feel that with this piece the biggest improvement is seeing additional effects of cracking on the armour as well as the hologram effect wings that are visible on Megaman. It's a nice trinket and with the way you have posed him it creates the concept of him being a angel of the future.

I also find the cell shading approach has increased greatly as well with how you use much cleaner tones and have also simplified the tones rather than use too many colours to make the work feel complex.

Keep it up.

Thanks for the comments.
This is actually supposed to be X from the Mega Man X series.
It was based off an RP storyline I am working on.

Glad you like. The fixes took quite a while, and there were quite a few that needed to be done. Some of the armor sections had to be totally reworked.

Yeah, I was comparing it with the old image I had and I noticed quiet a change.
Fortunately I still had the original file for the image in its un-flattened state, so I was able to go back and strip it down to its base drawing, keeping the background, clouds and effects. Then I redid the line art and all of the coloring, using a multi-layer gray overlay with a color base to get my shadows.
