Description
Edits:Noticed a few little things that need to be fixed. For some reason, when I recolored this, the light beams stopped working in certain places.
***********************************************
I said I'd get it done and I did!
I went back and reworked an old image that I did several years ago. I am much happier with this version then I am the old one, though I intend to leave the old image up as a comparison of how far I have come in my drawing and photoshop skills.
I think this time around I was able to set a much darker, more sober mood with the lighting contrast and the reflections.
Conversion, inking, painting, lighting and effects done by me.
Original pose referance by Ryo Takamisaki, artist of Megaman NT Warrior.
And obviously X does not belong to me. X belongs to Capcom! Whoot!

Thanks! Β I was trying to make the wings look kind of 'digital' or made of energy, and like they were falling apart or dissipating.

Your interest in my art prompted me to browse yours. This is a great drawing of X and demonstrates some effective lighting tricks. I see you coloured the outline of X's face, which helps it stand out as a human element on his robotic form. There's good manipulation of the Clouds filter for an effective background, and some well-rendered luminous projections create some nice backlighting. I'd say there's plenty of potential here if you strive to improve.

Thanks for your feed back as well! And glad you liked that piece. There was another reason that I colored the outline on his face, but I realized the last time that I worked on the image that the layer effect I originally had going some how got deleted or messed up. One of the light beams /used/ to cross /over/ his face, and another over part of his body. I'm not sure how they got messed up, but I need to remember to go back in and fix that.
My gallery is a little sparse mostly because of lack of time and proper equipment to work on a lot of projects. I have to go to my old college campus to work with my stylus and Photoshop, and that means I don't have a chance to get as much done, especially since the reduced the hours campus is open at night.
I want to go back and rework a lot of my older images. And I still feel I really need to work on human anatomy. Not that I can't draw it, just that I am still far to uncomfortable with my ability for it when working on my own, and it takes me so long and is so frustrating still.
Hope I'm even as good as /you/ one day. XD

You don't have to tell me how a lack of resources can hinder your productivity. Right now I'm working on a tiny writing desk that is just barely wide enough for my computer, a woven chair with no backing and a lamp with a broken stand. I don't have any notice boards on which to display my work or reference material, nor the ability to print any of it in colour. My laptop is the WORST computer I've ever used. It periodically freezes when doing complex operations, which means that I struggle to work on hi-res images. I've had a comic in planning for years, but I've had to shelve it because I don't have proper equipment. It's a hard life being poor, you know.

Don't I know it. At home I basically have a beach chair that only sits a foot or two off the ground, no desk, no lamp, and not decent software. I can't really use my mouse because I don't have a surface to use it on. No scanner or printer.....can't afford them, and my place is too small and cluttered with boxes of stuff neither I or my roommate want to get rid of. We have already shucked so much stuff as it is. So all of my sketches are done bent over a drawing pad on my lap...and it makes my back hurt after a while. But, we create, despite difficulty. For me it is mostly lack of time right now.
Oi...come commiserate with me, brother of understanding!

Part of a story plot that never got written. Might some day though. Basicly a big, nearly earth shattering battle that 'destoyed' one of X's armors, and what is left in the image is the damage that was done through the armor. Real damage to him would have been worse if he hadn't been wearing the armor that got destroyed. Still knocked him out though.

Genisay In reply to katrover [2011-01-09 16:26:43 +0000 UTC]
The 'energy' wings are all that is left of the 'destroyed' armor. The final phase of the battle happened miles above the ground, and the last of the wings survived long enough to prevent an otherwise disasterous fall.
I say the armor was 'destroyed' becuase it was a very special armor that couldn't completley be demolished, it just 'retreated' when it took too much damage. The scary thing was that this armor, which was one of the most powerful that X had ever had (this story was supposed to have been regarding one of the 'last' battles) was still damaged so badly that only the wings were able to function for a few seconds longer.

Yeah, I was kind of playing with doing glows right around the time that I did this image, and I figured it would be a good one to use them on. Make the wings look a little transparent and kind of like lighted energy.

Genisay In reply to ZeroMidnight [2010-03-22 23:21:12 +0000 UTC]
They were done faint to illustrate that they are not very strong and are barely holding together. I sort of mixed elements from the X series and from Battle Network.
