Description
Give him Dialog! If a hedgehog had gripes about this sitution, what would it be?This was a drawing I got inspiration for one night when my boyfriend and I were joking about a few 'what ifs'. We eventually ran across this one:
What if.... Mario and Sonic switched places and landed in the other character's world. Upon thinking of this idea, we decided to take it further and started thinking of what kinds of humors things may occur because of this switch.
Needless to say, you can guess one of them...
Sonic is copyrighted to Sega. The Frogsuit is copyrighted to Nintendo. The concept for this humiliation is copyrighted to me.

well, just check how much you can. I think if its a 10% profit, then its fine. Especially if you say its a fanart.

Ah, well, I don't really have anything else to sale to offset them. And I can't exactly just up and get a con booth, I can't hardly even get to con.

Nice crossover gag. I like the way this is drawn, and colored to, you have a nice style. I also like how Sonic's ears are down like he's not to happy about this.

I am glad that you liked it. Yeah, I wanted Sonic too look quiet puterbed about the prediciment that he was in. I like using animal characters ears to enhance their expressions. It kind of bugged me that Sega and Archie comics never made much use of the fact that the characters have ears that can be used in this way.

I know what you meen, but I do remember Rouge's ears did droop sometimes in some of the cinama scenes in "Sonic Heroes." Tails' ears also did it in one of the old Sonic cartoons, I remember.

Genisay In reply to Beau-Skunk [2008-09-03 19:12:02 +0000 UTC]
yeah, they did it sometimes, but they didn't use nearly as much 'ear emotion' as they could have. Fold Sonic's ears back every now and again when he gets angery and it would really enhance the feel of that emotion.

Kinda like Garfeild, eh? I always liked how his ears would go back when mad/upset, or something.

Genisay In reply to Beau-Skunk [2008-09-04 19:09:00 +0000 UTC]
Yeah, they did do that a lot with Garfeild. There are other ear poses as well, like straight too the sides might be sheepishness. To the sides and down is annoyance, straight-folded back is anger, turned back and low is fear.
phew. Those are just a few.
lol. For Sonic, I was aiming somewhere in the ball park of upset and annoyed.

As for dialogue,
"If I'm supposed to be Kermit, better not let Sally see me!"

Thanks for the dialog, and it does kind of look like the frog snuck up behind him and caught itself an unwary hedgehog snack.
And don't worry about Sally... I already have some plans in store for her. *hehehehe*

"And I thought the pumpkin suit was bad..."
(Sonic Adventure Two, Battle refrence)
"Don't I jump high enough already?"
"And I thought my life was hard enough!"
(refrencing the fact that Mario wears this thing in multiple games)
"At least it's not 'coon ears and a tail!"
That's all I can think of for now...

A very amusing piece of digital work that has expressed two things: Firstly your wonderful transition to digital art and your creative 'what if' presentation. The warm and very simple use of colour on this piece has worked excellently and defiantly makes him feel quite alive and eccentric. The clean level of shading displayed upon the suit and Sonic himself is excellently well done.
You've also shown good potentials in this piece and just what you can summon now within the field of digital. It would be interesting to see you create a series of these between the two worlds.

Thank you for your comments, as always. I am continuing to try and improve my digital skills in photoshop and intend to try a few more realistic style paint jobs with the program.
I am glad that you like my shading techniques, as well as the concept as a whole.
Don't be afraid to give me criticism as well, as that is one way that I can figure out what to do better, not to mention that being in college has gotten me used to some pretty harsh criticism.
Keep an eye out for the one with a background I will be putting up soon.

Pleasure to know and swell to see your keeping up with your improving digital work. Perhaps one area to explore more is the use of multiple layers (adding more of tones) to a design to give it a stronger realistic/ cartoon feel.
Keep it up.

I am actually working on that with a new picture that I am working on. I kind of diliberatly wanted to stick to a more cartoony feel on this one though.
