Animal design for

This is a pod of Whikes. The name is totally stupid and if anyone has a better suggestion, I will gladly take it!

Basically these are waterdwelling animals which live in family pods and are very social creatures. They are very intelligent, and much like dolphins, they love to play. They are mammals with special adaptations for underwater life.

The first of these is a gill-like mechanism which chemically creates oxygen from the water. This they use for themselves. However their newborns do not have fully formed gills for several weeks, and therefore pregnant and recent mother whikes have the ability to fill large bladders in their cheeks and throats with oxygen and release this in the form of a bubble with a hardy, viscous film around it. The newborns are able to immerse themselves in the bubble and take a breath. When the mother's air bladder inflates, she lets of a warm yellow glow because newborns are also fairly blind and rely more on light than actual sight for the first few weeks as well.

Whikes are very fast and agile due to their eel-like body shape. Their whiskers are sensory organs which aid them in navigating narrow undersea crevasses. They migrate twice a year over very long distances. In the winter they inhabit the warm waters of Aion.
