The cat DID perch atop a mountain of bones admidst all the boxes of human skeletons, disposal pits and cannibalized bones (split for the marrow). Truly this place was one of the rotting sores in the world, going back to antediluvian times.
A sort of sequel by Robert Price (Priest) ,"Exham Priory" discusses a second expedition into the deeps of the caves and buildings under that castle, and discoveries that led to the dynamiting of all traces of the foundations.

Anyone else find perfect irony in the name of the cat? The racist, 'urity' obsessed englishman, learning how pointless it all is in the long run? Learning how '
rimitive' we all are? Makes one wonder how lovecraft remained a racist after such depictions of man's origins.

I loved that story. Your piece is good, but I cant help but notice some innacuracies. Some of the skeletons have clothes and seem like they died in a battle of arms, whereas the original source claims some died of starvation while others succumbed to an attack by a rat horde. The skeletons seem a bit too 'human' and there was no mention of Cthulhu in the tale.
It's a good picture though nontheless.

thanks, I apreciate the feedback!
It does help a lot. I started that pic long before I truley learned a lot about lovecraft. I have actually started a series of painting based on his work. Any feedback is helpful for future work

Excellent. Highly inspired additions with the color, taking nothing away from the original, and adding so much more. I'm so glad I never showed you my take on it! Very dull. I'm really glad to see you took the time on it to make it look so outstanding. Will be in touch more, soon.

Thanks! It took a lot of effort to get it right.
I will be posting my DAGON pic soon. An even more detailed and larger scale pic.
How is work on the next Curio Script going?
I'm still deep in re-writes and a small side project working on an illustrated kids book written by one of the guys in my writting group.

This was hours and hours and hours....
I lost count... I did the color in segments over a few weeks.
I'd estimate about 10-15 hours total

As a big fan of the mythos I must commend you on this piece. Is the cat there because lovecraft was fond of cats?
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
GenoPunk In reply to Eggplantm [2006-04-03 04:18:01 +0000 UTC]
The cat was from the story that inspired the image, although other stories of his mixed into the influence as well. I liked the idea of haveing something living and familiar in the image to ground the viewer. The choice of the cat was from a particular passage that stuck in my mind for years after I read his short stories.
I'm glad you like the drawing, it took many many many hours of work to complete.
Thanks again.
