I enjoy the benifits of Capitalsim on a daily basis, and I enjoy it. Think of thte things that you wouldnt have with the implimention of Socialism. No internet, no computer, the people would build bombs, and not computers. Although I know Im not going to change your mind, thats just my two sence. I actually like Communism myself, besides Capitalism its my favourite form of goverment, it will never work though so I'll just dream.

Please, this is just a picture, not a propaganda-piece.
But anyway, communism isn't about having a bed and clothes as your personal property. Communism is about having whatever you want, be it air conditioning, computers, or cars. There are several strains of socialism/communism, and basically all of them want something else, so please, get educated; but once again I'd like to stress that this picture is about making people think, not about holding debates and making everyone an anti-capitalist.

The irony of this is that the armbands sell in the millions and have become fasion accessories.

You mean the make poverty history campaign? Actually I think it's good that it became a fashion accessory, because more people buy it that way. It's another question that that money doesn't really get to those who really need it.

I am not saying that it is necessarily bad, but I find it ironic, when you point out "To make poverty history we must consign the system that breeds it and lives by it to the rubbish bin of history, where it belongs.", and the reason the armbands are being bought is with a capitalist mindset: here, they are considered more important as fasion accessories than as fund-raisers.

Simple yes, but you could turn it into some stickers and stick 'em all over various public advertising.
Culture jamming is an effective tool to spread the word and make people self aware.
Oh yeah, BTW I love the new icon. ^_^

of course i have to agree with you! capitalism IS EVIL! ... got a dev to upload later about that
but unfortunately things aren't that easy! capitalism builds on human greed, which is unfortunately in most humans nature...we SHOULD fight for a better world, but i don't think any of us will live to see it... a working equal system will take generations to evolve!
like the picture!
cheers

Well what do you know....It did.
But I do not wish to clear you the difference between stalinism and socialism, so until you've read something in the matter, I won't be debating with you.

Frank Zappa also said, "Communism doesn't work because people like to own things." But no one saw him as a serious politicial figure either.
However, aside from the one close minded fellow in this long string of replies, its nice to see other 'reds' even though you all maybe a fair distance away, you're stil red and red's all that matters. My whole theory on the matter is summed up by Communism is a good idea on paper, Socialism is the only way to go, Marxism is merely a collection of ideas with no one with power coming from it.
And this next part is probably going to get me either shot in the back of the head by the FBI or exiled from America if anyone sees this, but I firmly believe in what Trotsky wrote about the rise of a Communist/Socialist rule in America, and that's simple, its going to have to be done by force, the rich run the country and they won't let some guy wanting to change their world get vote into office.
And getting back to what this whole comment thing is really about, The image made me laugh, more of an evil scientist laugh, but it was a good one.

And with what would you replace the capitalism? Communism? There was poverty too.
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
Genun In reply to dave-budapest [2005-07-03 21:12:53 +0000 UTC]
I'd replace it with socialism. I know you're hungarian just as me, but think about it! That wasn't socialism at all, state capitalism at most.
And to take the advantage of you being hungarian: You surely know about Imre Nagy, don't you? By chance you even saw the movie about him and the '56 revolution.
Do you really think that a life-long communist and revolutionary would just say "okay, bring in capitalism"? No! He wanted to achieve original socialism, ofwhich Marx and Engels have dreamed of! And he was stopped by the soviet imperialism.
What he wanted was:
+total independence of Hungary
+free and fair elections
+the social protecting net
+free education, helthcare, etc
+total freedom of speech
+the worker's power in factories and other organizations.
This sounds like socialism for me! Yet look around! We got conservatives like the fidesz and fidelitas aswell as the mdf protecting Nagy all the time. And telling us that "he wouldn't like it if the socialists would be here at the [insert rememberence related to 56] ceremony." For once, the mszp is quite far from being socialist, aswell as what the old system was, which was post-stalinism. Let's just say, that Nagy would be most disgusted to see what has become of his country.
I encourage you to read more about socialism. You can find links at our new group: ~WeWantSocialism

Yes, I agree with you, and it is good to hear that you distinguish communism, and socialism.
If communism would be something possible to run, I would assist it, believe me. Its a beautifull thought, but I think it is impossible... Maybe if a very stron government institution would take care of it... But who would keep a close watch on the government institution?
I have already read about socialism, but think it will be an utopy for ever...
...Alltrough I will check out the links!

Actually, I am a supporter of communism, but I don't believe in it myself really. If time seems like appropriate to implement it, I won't stand in it's way, that is for sure. But, what I really want is socialism, and you really can't say that's impossible.
And of course, every movement needs a good leadership, at all times. But if the revolution goes well, afterwards it can't be difficult, because the political life will be similar to today's bourgeois democracy, the only thing differing to its political life is that the worker's forums will control the economy everywhere. (if Nagy wanted to make it happen, it mustn't be a utopia)

you are completely right, but there are really some problems, I mean I personally could fight for this and never get tired of it, but when we get married and have children we'll want the best for them and then we'll have questions in our own minds, I mean I'm not sure, for now I hate capitalism as well and I hate people being slaves but, I dont know what the future will bring, are you sure that you'll be able to keep that really needed policy for ever?

Genun In reply to johnofarc [2005-07-04 08:44:49 +0000 UTC]
I see you think of "fighting" as in going to the streets with a machine gun in your hand. That's not what I mean. if you have a family and all that, you can still believe and support it. You can go to debates and be active in politics, can't you? Almost every politician in the world does the same.
And, as I am not a magician of any kind, I can not see the future. But, I'd really hate myself if I'd just give up everything. You know, if you look around in music, movies, and the people. everyone is whining about "I don't have a goal in life". "I want something I could even die for". Well, there you have it! The 3/4 of the world is in poverty, 8 countries rule the other 250, isn't that something worth fighting against? And it is truely too much of a worthwhile cause to just drop.
I hope you read Marx's quote that is on my Karl Marx titled deviation. Read it, it really helps you to decide with a clear mind in times of "giving up".
