The concept of Death as a sentient entity has existed in many societies since the beginning of recorded history. In English, Death is often given the name "the Grim Reaper" and, from the 15th century onwards, came to be shown as a skeletal figure carrying a large scythe and clothed in a black cloak with a hood. In Jewish tradition, Death was referred to as the Angel of Life and Death (Malach HaMavet) or the Angel of Dark and Light stemming from the Bible and Talmudic lore. The Bible itself does refer to the "Angel of Life and Death" when he reaps Egypt's firstborns, but he is not connected to Satan. There is also a reference to "Abaddon" (The Destroyer), an Angel who is known as the "Angel of the Abyss". In Talmudic lore, he is characterized as archangel Samael.
In some cases, the Grim Reaper can actually cause the victim's death, leading to tales that he can be bribed, tricked, or outwitted in order to retain one's life, such as in the case of Sisyphus. Other beliefs hold that the Spectre of Death is only a psychopomp, serving to sever the last ties between the soul and the body and to guide the deceased to the next world without having any control over the fact of the victim's death. In many languages (including English), Death is personified in male form, while in others, it is perceived as a female character (for instance, in Slavic and Romance languages).

Now this, THIS is one epic Grim Reaper. Awesome job on this. He looks badass and terrifying at the same time. Especially all the bones. And the background, is fantastically theatrical.

Do you take requests? If so, I got one: Kuebiko, a Shinto god from Japanese mythology that's represented as a Scarecrow. After seeing your interpretations of the Grim Reaper and Headless Horseman, I'd like to see your interpretation of a Scarecrow.

Fun fact: French is among the languages seeing death as female.
More than one reason to this:
- In french, no equivalent of the pronoun "it" exist, so everything is gendered. Yes, even our word for death, "mort", which is a feminine word. Also, it's always called "la mort", "la" being the equivalent of "the" used to speak of something female. (Or something with which got a feminine name, in the case of an object.)
- She is also called "la faucheuse", which could be translated into "the reaper" or "the killer", among other things. It's also A reference to her favorite tool to colect souls, (a scythe being called "une faux") and what one is usually expected to do with said tool. (Or at least was, before the process got motorized.)
Some people with very bat tastes would argue it make sense, calming this to be what every models should look like, if not every women. But for my part, I think most models need more fat, especially (but not necessarily exclusively) in some key parts of a woman anatomy. (I also think they need to smile more, but that's another story.)

I don't normally like how you're art style looks, as it's either overly masculine or overly feminine to the point of utter ridiculousness and it just ruining the picture for me, but this.
This is just metal as fuck.

Great job on the pic. For some reason, people already call me a reaper, so it kinda makes pics like these even better since I can see myself as them. Kinda pretentious I know, but still fun to do.
