I know there is a lot of fans of LOTR, Narnia, Earthsea, etc, but when I was a kid this book filled the place for me. Until today is my favorite Fantasy book, I love how each character are not the classical "Hero" or not maybe the conventional fantasy hero and a lot more like people trying to find their own place. I rly love the world created by Peter S. Beagle. I love the movie also and is one of my favorite animated movies ever. I swear I feel so weird finding out this was an anime movie after all these years, and more shocked to find out the team who did this movie became Studio Ghibli.. It's a Ghibli film before Ghibli was even formed.. O_oΒ

I actually met Peter Beagle on accident and realized that TLU was a book before it was a movie. I was really young and my older sister loved this movie and I thought it was just some stupid girl movie... Then I watched recently and I think its amazing. Rankin and Bass' best movie

Amazing! Β So much detail!
We used to get this from Block Buster when I was little, it was one of our favorites. Β But I've watched it in the last few years and now....the charm is gone, which is kind of sad. Β Also, THAT HARPY! Β Really creepy!
I tried reading the book when I was in Middle School, and I couldn't do it. Β It put me to sleep; but perhaps I will try again in a few years

I fully agree with you. that book and the cartoon movie by Rankin Bass are still wonderful classics. Peter S Beagle brought a beautiful world to all those who believe there is something more in this world. I know the book is dedicated to someone who thought they saw a unicorn and to all the hopes in the world. I hope there is one even if it is just fantasy...this is just too beautiful...sigh...
