At first glance, Redpath comes off as playful and light-hearted, frequently trying to act cool and failing miserably. He usually doesn't take things seriously, loves to mess around and avoids doing trivial tasks such as paperwork. For a pony of his position, Red seems to be immature and the anti-thesis of what he is supposed to be - but even so, he gets along great with other ponies. Many love his stories, jokes, and modest demeanor, making it easy for him to form strong relationships.

Surprisingly, underneath Red's troublesome behavior belies a passionate pony who is determined to help others in any way he can. Since he is good at reading emotions, Red is very sentimental and is easily moved by the feelings of others. He is always friendly and supportive behind his antics and loves to watch and guide his friends to figure things out for themselves. To him, friendship is one of life’s greatest privileges and nothing is more satisfying than to make things better for those who he cares for.

On the other side of his nature, however, is his high self-consciousness. As a strong idealist, Red constantly tries to make things to what he believes is best. This resolve, though stemming from noble intentions, can make him become controlling, stubborn and even reckless when something conflicts with what he thinks is right. He is also somewhat of a profuse liar; preferring to avoid being direct and truthful for the sake of avoiding confrontation. However, the worst of all his flaws is his timidness at expressing his true emotions. Red frequently represses his fear and anger - which, because of his passionate nature, leads him to linger on mistakes and hold long bitter grudges.
