The events of Melting Snow takes place five years before the start of RWBY

The cracking of the snow caught Winter's attention as ax swung cutting through the neck of the Alpha beowolf, the swing cut through the beasts neck as the head slowly began to disintegrate before her. Standing behind the falling body of the Grimm was a gray haired warrior, his ocean blue eyes stared at hers. She knew who he was everyone in Atlas had heard the rumors of his family and what they did to Atlas people. "Coinin." He didn't answer or say anything he just stared at her in silence lowering his weapon.

A clapping noise echoed in the small clearing as she heard another set of footsteps approach her from the tree line behind the Coinin that saved her. "Wonderful job Flynn you managed to save your little damsel in distress..." The voice stopped for a few seconds, "Wait, that is Winter Schnee...this could be a good turn of our us Flynn."
