Not to mention that by destroying the Stone when ONE evil old man came sniffing about for it (by comparison the USA alone stops hundreds of terrorist plots if not more PER DAY, and by people with far more cunning than Lord Moldy-Shorts) Dumbledore effectively killed more people than in both World Wars. Smooth move, Ex-Lax.
Even with nothing but the abilities shown by wizards in canon, let alone with what they could almost certainly do with a little applied logic, they could easily become living legends and just about qualify as demi-gods. Imagine someone who can literally walk on water or make someone grow back their arm with a potion on national television. Instead they hide away like frightened children and act in ways that would be very much cause for war if they're ever discovered. (kidnapping? check. forced memory altering? check. theft? check, most notably the ENTIRE TRAIN they stole for Hogwarts...)

Everything is solved lol. Yeah no kidding right? Not to mention they can instantly go invisible and only someone with magic can go to their world so they have absolutely zero to fear
