Description
say i& you too
like mad
we wandered
wherever
to god
& asked it to appear
& so it soul-sprouted out of earth
or spilled all star-dusted from heaven
or emerged from a gang of goliath worms
& was so splendidly riddled with prisms
or not
we saw god in marvelous feathers
of flaking gold or seven robes
of mica or divinely impoverished
with a putrid buzzard’s beard
or whatever
we were destined
to perceive
our phantoms of truth be
so distinctly two of these
that they must eventually
become one
see:
down inside the kuk, kuk & skow
crackling out each green heron beak
is a different sort of time
or now than is
grown within the roh-roh-roh & awk
of every great blue one
so
deep within a claw of bear
black & river-blessed
exists a unique air
of holy space
which is oh-so-never
alike that which is
sewn within a talon of owl-bird
silent & flying ready-spread
with fiery night-sky eyes
so
far along the sweet flag
patch of summer swords
withered & seeds to set
weathers a certain wind
distinct from that which is
long atop & whistling
within the tower-tree hickory
fluttering leaves
& trembling nuts
& squirrels
& nuts again
ah, but each of these
happenings
must also be very much
the samethings
mortal somethings
which arise from
infinite grains
of nothing
again
& again.

Your introspection has a new voice after these years. Your frailty of the human condition, and along with it the disconnect from nature which could be the cause of our inner voids, has a new perspective. Encores requested, and I hope you can find the inner peace we all seek.
Once you do, start a religion.

As a math enthusiast, the title really got my attention. If you approximate a curve with straight line segments, it does become a smooth arc as the number of segments approaches infinity. I can't say I understand all the imagery, but it got me thinking, and I guess that was the point. I like the "or" verses toward the beginning; it was almost like a choose your own adventure. Instead of picturing on exact sequence of events, I imagined a superposition (Yay for quantum mechanics!) of all of them blurred together, leaving only the mood in focus.

I enjoyed this immersion into abstraction, rooted as it is in concrete nature. Thanks for sharing.

there is no such thing as a straight line, a ark is a line.
a line is a concept which includes an infinitely-extended one-dimensional figure with no curvature
Why they are round
It is infinite and therefore it cannot have a point of origin or endpoint.
in turn, it also cannot point in any given direction, and the only thing that gives a 1 dimensional figure its semblance of existence is it’s sense of direction.
The only shape in existence that has no specific point of origin or endpoint is a circle or a sphere.
These are also the only shapes in existence that cannot point in a given direction.
Therefore, there are 2 remaining possibilities, either lines do not exist, or they are round.

I equate you with a wild bear-man, roaming the woods, looking for his next meal and showing the world that everything doesn't have to be so complicated, that life is what we let it be and that
this city air is poisoning the people that pretend to thrive in it.
"mortal somethings
which arise from
infinite grains
of nothing
again
& again."
Cycles of life, repeat stuttered mutters
yet every face feels
new.

hello there nic. long time! i tend to be much calmer than a wild bear-man might suggest, but the sentiment seems spot on. i appreciate the compliment.

You are welcome. I always greatly appreciated that part of you. It reminds me of how it felt living in the natural wild as opposed to this forest of highways and fast food shitholes.
You're in Tennessee now, right?

absolutely picking up where you left off, wherever that off happened to be. Initially I am just really pleased, to echo a similar statement of yours, to be reading your work again. I feel the cool breeze coming off a swift stream, wound its way through deciduous trees and ferns, my northwest mind always goes to moss too, when I am so pleasantly transported out of myself. You have continued over the years to chisel your work down to the gorgeous fragility of the essential. I think, personally, that the pursuit of that simple tenant, reducing down, cutting the unneeded, usually leads to the sublime. Every sentence and stanza is loaded with meaning, and its so sharp you almost cut yourself on the line break.
I am rereading it here and I love the central message, it really hits my worldview right on the head. your structuring with the "so", and that switch between extremely common language or structuring, a conversational tone balance between an extremely evocative descriptive tone, those passages just lead into eachother very well. Smooooth. I also love using the bird calls, you've always had those animist infusions in your work, and this poems is sort of a self aware joyful expression of that. Love it man, no critique on this one, just that odd sensation I rarely feel of reading a poem that takes me places. Can't wait for the next egg to hatch!
