Description
"What a view huh?"This is one of those rare occurrences where I set out to make something and it happens exactly as I planned. I set out to make a great view and I personally think I achieved it well.
Gives me Firewatch vibes.
Decided to leave this one titled 'View' since I think it came out amazing.

I actually just use normal TF2 models that can be found by just having TF2 installed, there is no actual "traditional terrain" (Grass, sand or roads) in this picture at all, I just placed normal TF2 tree models on the rocks which also hide the ground to give the illusion of terrain.
- The effects used like the motion blur and sun bloom is all in engine by using sun rays for the sun (Obviously) and also Super DoF to blur the foreground (The train and the birds) I also used color modification to make the thing seem more bright and colorful. It actually looks very depressing without it. The entire picture is in engine without any photoshop.
- The sky is also in engine, this map is still on gm_black like always however i used a command which I think is sv_changesky or something and set it to the Thunder Mountain sky.
- Everything on screen is from normal TF2 except the train model, watch tower and pigeon bomb (to the left over the tree's) The tower is from a scenebuilding and the train and pigeon bomb are End of the Line SFM props.
- Also one very useful thing is skycards, they are the 2d cards used for the background tree's which I just rescaled and they give the illusion of a bigger scene.
- Camera angle is very important, especially if you plan on using Super DoF. Place it wrong and Super DoF may blur the wrong things and also placing it right will hide where you clearly didn't place "traditional terrain" and just used rocks and trees.
- Fog editor helped in this one, it added a morning haze to it.
- Combine all that together and it ended up with some pictures that I initially would have imagined to be possible in SFM.
Also with some of them they actually look like they were made as TF2 maps and are not scenebuilds.
I hope that answered your question.

Yeah it does involve a lot of improve, but some one who makes the sort of stuff you do could probably do way better than this.
It's also surprisingly easy to make good terrain since TF2 is so exaggerated anything can look good. The lighting and effects are the hardest part and on this particular one took about 2 hours to get perfect.
