Description
A mermaid junps out of water, exposing her eye-catching shape to the moonlight....was not what I was supposed to draw. XD
I thought I was going to draw a girl with goldfish's fins and with her legs intact, but as I proceeded with the sketch, I felt it was not fitting the scene. Instead of clinging to the primary idea I switched to a mermaid.
On the whole I enjoyed painting it. After I got over the terrible artist's block I had last year, I noticed something in my mind had changed again. I don't know what it is, nor can I explain it, but it could be another turning point which could direct me to the next step.
Artistic expression and drips are probably OK. While anatomy, water surface, drips from the tail and the splash could have had better expression.
I tried putting sparkles as well, only to find that the calm atmosphere was spoiled with garish glitters, eventually I decided not to adopt the decorated version, which I believe was right.
Anyway, it was a good start as the first step of self training, I suppose.
Everything from sketch through final effects done on Photoshop6 as usual.
I hope you like it.

Thanks for the complement! I had a trouble when I was painting the breasts. But maybe the result is OK, judging from your comment.

That's gorgeous! You did a beautiful job with the water! =.____.=;; Aii, I always have trouble with nature, especially when it comes to coloring it! =X.X=! I'm glad you find yourself improving. I feel like everyone improves after artist blocks.
Maybe they're a blessing.

Hi getty!
your works always looks so detailed and wonderfull!
I especially like the mermaid fins and her hair, maybe the hair is denying gravity a bit but nonetheless it looks wonderful! <3
Actually I can phrase it into Γ³ne word astonashing, , because off al that, and because you try to do things you never really done before with painting im gonna fave, i hope my comment is in anyway usefull to you

Hi robin! Thanks for the complement! I'm very glad you like it! I thought someone would deny the dolphin-like fins, but so far nobody did, and you say you like them, that's good! About the hair, I kinda intentionally ignored the gravity, but maybe I should have added more gravity-showing effect. Anyway, this time I really enjoyed painting it, that's the best thing! Thanks again for your comment, it was of great help and has given me power to the next work!

Your welcome, mwah the goldfish-like fins would be less nice because the whole pic is a bit blue-ish I think. I really do like em, especially how you detailed the curves with shine. Denying gravity isn't always bad you know, it's just how the painter wanted it to paint, there is nothing wrong with it, cause thats not for us to decided eventually.
Enjoying painting is so awesome, it really helps you to get a superb feeling about yourself, a feeling I am dying to get for a long time. I quess the artist block isn't over. Im glad to give you motivation! Keep on going, the only thing im seeing is drastic improvement in skill!
See ya!

whoah... what skill!!!! O.O I mean.... how can you even DRAW a pose like that????!!!!!! Do you draw all of your images from your head? Or do you use some sort of pose reference?? Also.. how long have u been drawing??? YOU'RE SOOO BLASTED GOOD!!
