Description
A mermaid junps out of water, exposing her eye-catching shape to the moonlight....was not what I was supposed to draw. XD
I thought I was going to draw a girl with goldfish's fins and with her legs intact, but as I proceeded with the sketch, I felt it was not fitting the scene. Instead of clinging to the primary idea I switched to a mermaid.
On the whole I enjoyed painting it. After I got over the terrible artist's block I had last year, I noticed something in my mind had changed again. I don't know what it is, nor can I explain it, but it could be another turning point which could direct me to the next step.
Artistic expression and drips are probably OK. While anatomy, water surface, drips from the tail and the splash could have had better expression.
I tried putting sparkles as well, only to find that the calm atmosphere was spoiled with garish glitters, eventually I decided not to adopt the decorated version, which I believe was right.
Anyway, it was a good start as the first step of self training, I suppose.
Everything from sketch through final effects done on Photoshop6 as usual.

Thank you very much! Yeah when I started painting the tail was mono toned, then I thought "it's just boring, let's put some patterns." So my choice was correct, right? ^^ Thanks again!!

I love the perspective, it's really an interesting way to look at it. The pose is gorgeous, and all the colors blend really well together. The water is really nice too.

Waiii! *______* Amazing! You never cease to amaze me with your images. Water is always a hard to paint subject in a picture. I like how the ocean looks though, for the water splashes I don't think they look too bad actually. What I like most about the images is the color contrast with the fins on her body to the sky and ocean. It's also well laid out in how her body is flowing so the focal point becomes the face. ^_^

There are many different ways to look at an image I guess, but still the most important is how much effort is put in it, wether the water looks good or not. ^^

I guess there are many ways of how to explain water, and the fact that some say they like this expression and some say they aren't so much proves it as well, though I don't know which is right. XD Anyway I'll try more. The contrast is one of what I intended the most, so I'm very glad that you like it!
