Description
Aww, isn't she cute? The angle was her idea, and it worked out really well.
A la mother-fucking myspace. Little miss scene herself. Not that I have a problem with scene.
I don't think anyone has a problem with scene when they look like this.
Great thing about taking photos from this angle, is you can look right down her top and pretending your just mulling over the f/stop to use.
Not that i would do that of course.
Fuck no.
So, yeh this was also taken in the forest behind my house. Same as Go down to the woods today .
Meri's making a second contribution to this photo.
When I asked her I should put, she said "Why write a long description? Why not just put 'Look! Photo!'?"
As much as I love her, sometimes she can be a little useless.
I ask her 'so what do you want from the pictures?' and she simply tells me I'm the photographer. We arranged it the night before at some god-unearthly hour. Well, sometime after midnight. Not that bad I guess. I searched up some fashion shots and whatever, but I'm more interested in the model than in the clothes.
Anyone can wear nice clothes. Meri, however, is beautiful in her own way. Inside and out.
Not that she acknowledges it. Or will let anyone tell her it either. She's one of those people who doesn't really recognise how gorgeous she is.
Not really much else to say about this shot.
Doesn't mean I'm going to stop talking.
So, who likes the bokeh of my lens? I knew I'd love this lens as soon as found out about it. Fixed focal length lenses. The fucking way to go.
How about I try writing a sentance that lasts longer than a single line.
Fuck no.
This is the first time I've used vignetting as a tool in my photos. And I like it. Might use it more often.
I feel this is very sligtly =jmonzani -esque. Which is good, because I admire him as a photographer.
I don't usually submit in colour. But I couldn't helpt it.
Meri is colour. Well. Colourful.
Full fucking stop.
I'll leave it here.

I love the matching of the colours of the forest floor and the model's hair. Lovely model too.
I also like the long comments! Too many people lazily put '...' in the comments field. I like a bit of insight into what went into the finished photo.

This has a lot of comments but will go ahead anyway. I have never seen anything more beautiful in my LIFE.
Well done to your photographic skills and to her sincerity and beauty.

I used the 50/1.8. It's not as sharp as the 1.4 or the 1.2L, but it gets surprisingly sharp at f/2.8 - almost as sharp as the 1.2L wide open, but the 1.2L performs better at f/2 than the 1.8 at 2.8 Such is life, eh? But the 50:1.8 is a cheap and cheerful buy that I have never regretted. Possibly my best value-for-money purchase.
But my best purchase ever was definitely my Leica, now that would have made something of this shot had I had an 85/2 sumicron to use on it.... and some slide film to load on it as well.

I have the 50mm 1.8.... but it seems i have some front focus problems... it's annoying. I gotten some nice sharp photos
dude, I want a leica so badly! but my Bessa will do for now.

Don't worry about getting a Leica body, get a Leica lens first... or get some Zeiss glass. The 50/2 Zeiss ZM glass is superbly sharp with very nice bokeh. It doesn't quite have the glow of a Leica lens, but it's about 1/3rd the price.

Then the Zeiss might the better choice for me then. I want a 50mm anyways... all I have for my rangefinder is a 35mm/2.5. I somehow got accustomed to a 50 frame.

Bernhard (~zort ) has got some stuff up with the Zeiss 35/2 Biogon, and the Zeiss 50/2 shares the characteristics for the most part, so check if you like it there, he's only used it on his latest 4-5 shots though, everything else is mostlly with summicron glass.

Thanks for the info! check it out seems like the 50/2 is good enough for me but... thats an M mount? since I got into this.. searched and found this other lens... Nokton 50mm f/1.5 screw, which is even cheaper... on the net some say the bokeh is not very good but it would be nice to have summicron glass and get a screw mount to M mount adapter

Yeah, the Zeiss is an M-Bayonet mount, usable with any Leica or Bessa that doesn't have LTM (Leica Thread Mount) and believe me you'll know if it's LTM.
Nokton f/1.5 is ok, and a stop faster, but I've heard similar things about the bokeh not being particularly smooth, and I've also heard it's relatively unsharp compared to most M-mount glass - as it's produced by Voigt. instead of Leica and isn't Summicron glass that's kinda to be expected. But it IS cheaper and much more affordable.
And as for getting Summicron LTM glass with an adapter, I'd say don't bother, it's usually still more expensive than the Zeiss glass and not as sharp - you DO get Leica bokeh, but I'd still say don't bother as the Zeiss bokeh is plenty smooth enough and will probably be in better condition. Zeiss glass actually has a very similar construction to Summicron glass and also has a ten-blade aperture that gives the bokeh some similar characteristics (though the Zeiss aperture blades are said to be slightly more rounded which gives more 'blended' bokeh, which actually is partly what sets the Summicron glass above it)
I'm personally wondering whether I should buy the 35/2 Biogon, it certainly seems to be a good buy for the money since I can't buy the 35/2 Summicron ASPH because of budget problems.

I have the Bessa R...... tread mount. I should have spent $300 more and got the bessa with m mount... then the obvious choice would have been the Zeiss....oh well.

GFXPunk In reply to Supreme24 [2007-10-26 19:59:43 +0000 UTC]
Ah - that's a shame. Well, it does mean there are cheaper Leica lenses available to you though, which can't be a bad thing - no Summicron lenses can exactly be listed as crap
But I'm still thinking the Zeiss glass with an adapter may be the way forwards.
I'm pondering whether I can find a way to afford the Zeiss 35/2 or 50/2 - and if I can, which one I'd prefer? I'm immensely enjoying the 35mm framelines at the moment... I dunno... we shall see.

Aaaah... freckled redhead with such a symmetrical face and a kickass smile... I'm all wet, mate.
But honestly - she encouraged you to take a really awesome perspective in this one. Congratulations... It makes so much difference.
A polished b&w shot would be nice of it too, but first you'd need to select a different white balance from the raw file, from my experience b&w directly from a yellow light makes faces look a bit flat.

I tried it in black and white and it..it lost something. I've tried it several times, several different ways. I think it's the eyes. The eyes are less powerful in the black and white versions I find.... it's not to do with the skin... it's the eyes...

It's the depth of field that makes this picture work, trying opening your lens to it's widest aperture - you'll want it around f/2, if you're shooting film use Kodak portra, if not then when opening up the RAW file then obviously you'll have loads more control. Portra is still better though. The canon F/1.8 lens is actually quite a warm lens, which helped.
The picture was taken on a very sunny day under light foliage - the foliage broke up the light to give it a softboxed look. It's one of the nice things about shooting in the woods.
