I like this Character's design very much. If you wanted to avoid Kida's look I would suggest a different skin tone or Tattoo/War Paint Color, say a yellow, white, or green so that they'd still work with this piece.

LOL I don't think she looks too much like Kida. I was actually thinking she looked like an awesome, white-haired version of Dagger from FF9! It's probably the style of her hair. Really cool!!

I shaded it on paper with pencils and then scanned it, set the layer to multiply in photoshop and colored underneath it.
there's a good tutorial about that kindof coloring somewhere in my favorites if you're interested.
