Icy winds nipped at your cold skin as you sat on the edge of a large boulder just outside of the grand forest of Mirkwood. You were the next queen to reign over the grand forest but...Suddenly things changed. 'What am I even doing here?...' You questioned yourself silently as you recalled the earlier events.
Flashback~
"Legolas! J-Just hold on! It's not what you think!" You called to him as you practically jogged to keep up with his large strides. "Not..What..It..Looked like?" Legolas sounded strangely calm which unsettled you as you both stood still. Slowly turning around, his eyes were slightly glassed over as he let out a shaky breath.
"I walked in to you in another man's arms (Y/N)!!!" He shouted at you causing you to flinch. "I'm not denying that Legolas b-but at least let me tell you what happened!" You shouted back as Legolas shook his head. "I can't believe I loved you.." Loved. Not love..Loved.. Your heart began to shatter into tiny pieces as you felt tears well up in your eyes.
Biting down on your soft lip you closed your eyes before opening them and releasing a soft breath. "L-Legolas..Let me explain.. Please.." You whimpered as a tear escaped and began to roll down your cheek. He held his hand up while looking to the side."I do not want to hear your lies..I expect you out of the castle and the forest before nightfall..And never come back." His normal soft blue eyes that once looked at you with such happiness, now looking at you with heartbreak.
Legolas took a step further away from you. "I thought you were different.." He said icily as he spun around, his traditional braid whipping around and slapping against his back. As he walked away, you fell to the ground as your heart fully fell into a billion pieces as the tears began to fall freely. While you struggled to your feet you recalled old Elvish teachings. "Your heart only belongs to one. No matter what, when your heart has chosen that one, you may never love another."
"I guess the teachings are wrong...He hates me.." You whimpered before going to your bedding chambers and collecting your small amount of personal items. You see, you didn't have much since you had just moved to Mirkwood from Rivendell.
Slinging the bag on your shoulder, you filled your water holder and grabbed a few slices of Lambas bread before walking out of the castle walls. Turning around you looked at the grand castle before giving your last goodbye. (Pfft I'm not referencing the ending of the Hobbit.. Not at all..)
END Flashback.
Letting another sigh escape you, you placed your head in your arms as you thought of what you were going to do next. "If..He would've just let me explain..", the truth was, was that you had just gotten word that your older sister had just died during giving birth to her twins.
As soon as you had finished reading said letter, you had busted into tears in the middle of the hallway, a guard passing through had offered the upcoming queen a shoulder to lean against. That was when Legolas walked in, having finished his security meaning early, and found you with the guard.
After you had gotten your things you decided to write Legolas a letter explaining what happened before you left. Now you were sitting at the gates of the forest. Standing up you couldn't help but looking back at the forest longingly before snapping yourself out of those thoughts.
"I better get moving if I want to reach Rivendell before the next full moon." You spoke aloud, trying to convince yourself to move your feet. "Come on.." You mumbled picking up your bag as you started walking, trying to ignore the ache in your heart. You didn't get very far though before you heard a faint yell of, "(Y/N)!!", "Just my imagination.." you thought as you continued on.
~Back with Legolas~
'I can't believe she would betray me..' He thought, leaving the bathing hall with a loose bathing robe over his shoulders and leggings on, his blonde locks damp and loose on his shoulders. Opening the large wooden double doors to his bedroom, Legolas went to his wardrobe to get out some fresh clothes while he felt something was off in the room.
Slowly turning, Legolas' blue gems for eyes scanned the room before landing on a small piece of paper on his windowsill. Walking over to the window, his nimble fingers plucked the paper up and began to read it.
It read:
"Dearest Legolas, I know you more than likely despise me now and I cannot blame you for it. But I will explain why what you saw happened in the first place. Lord Elrond had sent me a letter, notifying me of the death of my older sister, (S/N). She had died giving birth to my nephews. After I had finished reading the letter I was in such a state..
I was almost on the ground in tears. A guard walking by helped me to my feet and offered me a shoulder to cry on. I didn't come to you since you were busy with your duties. I hadn't known that you were out of your meeting early. I hope someday you find it in your heart to forgive me..But I know that, that day may never come. I am doing as you said, leaving Mirkwood and never coming back. Guren *níniatha n'i lû n'i a-govenitham, Legolas. (My heart shall weep until I see you again).
-(Y/N)"
Legolas tensed up immediately, his stance frozen as he read the letter over and over again before looking up. "..What have I done.." He said regretfully as he quickly grabbed his light green tunic and boots and quickly pulled them on. Grabbing his bow and arrow quiver, Legolas quickly told a guard he'd be back and raced out the door, eager to find you.
"(Y/N)!!!" He shouted over and over while racing through the forest. His elvish sight looked back and forth from tree to tree as he reached the elvish gates to the outside territory. Snapping his head back and forth, he squinted as he caught glimpse of your (H/C) locks down a few yards away. "(Y/N)! Please!" Legolas yelled out once more as he ran nimbly to your form as you paused in your stride. "Legolas?" You mumbled as you turned around to see him running full sprint to catch up to you.
"Legolas!" You said louder as he lifted you up into his arms and held you close. "(Y/N)..." Tears sprung in his eyes. "I'm so sorry...So sorry I didn't let you explain things in the beginning.." Legolas kept saying over and over as he pressed his face into your shoulder.
"L-Legolas.." You said as you hesitantly wrapped your arms around him as he pulled you closer. "Would you ever forgive me?.." He said sorrowfully as you nodded slightly. "I-I'll always forgive you.. But.." Legolas pulled away to look into your eyes with his own.
"Why did you automatically assume that I would want to be in the arms of another?" You said as Legolas frowned and looked guilty before pressing you closer to him. "I was so jealous..Seeing someone else's hands upon you.. " He said, rubbing your arms gently as you couldn't help but smile.
"I forgive you Legolas." You spoke softly as Legolas quickly pressed his lips to your own, capturing you in a quick kiss. "Thank you my love." He said as he pulled away, a smile on his face. "Let's go home.." You nodded and allowed him to slip his hand to interlock with yours.

"But don't think because I forgave you, that you are off the hook for not trusting me so quickly." You said as you both walked back through the forest to the kingdom walls once more. Legolas paled quickly. "Of course, my love.."
