One quiet spring morning, Sprout was watering his plants and enjoying a cup of earl grey tea. Cassie had gone out hours earlier for a test run of her new wings. Initially, Sprout had wanted to watch, but after his older sister grabbed him from above and started carrying him into the sky, he'd decided he wasn't going anywhere near Cassie and her heckin flappers for the rest of the day. Or until she was over the novelty of them, anyway. The ground was where he had always felt most comfortable-specifically in forests and in the middle of nature. Not screaming towards the sky, hundreds of feet from the ground. Cassie was totally insane if she actually enjoyed being up in the air like that, he thought. Letting out a soft sigh, he moved on to the next planter, ready to water his prized daisies. They were the biggest in the whole village, and though they weren't exactly the rarest or most flashy flowers, they were his favorite. Just as he was about to refill his watering can, Cassie burst through the door, almost knocking him off his feet. Since she was fully grown now, (physically, at least) her extroverted self seemed to take up so much more room than before. "Hey, Beansprout!" She exclaimed, giving him a gentle noogie with her paw. Sprout shook his head back and forth, refluffing his poor flattened hair tuft. "Hi, Cassie." He replied almost curtly. "How was flying practice?" "Great!!" She quipped, extending her wings as far as she could inside the tiny house. "I wasn't sure about these before, but they're the best things that've ever happened to me!" "That's awesome, Cas.." Sprout said, reaching up to fill up his watering can. The stool he usually used to reach the sink was gone, though, so he was about a foot short of the faucet. "Let me help!" Cassie said, plucking the can out of his grasp before he could react. She filled it and turned to Sprout's worktable, which was cluttered with planters and art supplies. "What do you need watered?" Sprout's gaze danced down the line of plants until it reached his daisies. "Just the daisies at the end, sis. Thanks." She nodded and started to tip the can. Before she could water a single daisy, however, the watering can slipped from her grasp. It landed straight in the planter, flattening the flowers against the soil.

Sprout, who had been watching from behind, let out a panicked cry. "My daisies!" He wailed, flinging the can to the side. The stems were broken but the flowers were luckily still intact. That didn't matter to him, though. "Why do I ever trust you with anything??" He growled at a remorseful-looking Cassie. "I-I'm sorry, Beansprout, it was an accid-" "No! You always just get in the way of everything. You're so loud and now you're huge and..." His voice broke. "You're gonna leave me just like my parents did!" Sprout started to sob . Cassie's eyes softened and she put an arm around him. "Sprout, I'm so sorry about your flowers. And I'm not going anywhere. Do you really think I'd ever leave my little brother behind?" She asked softly. "I.. I dunno." Sprout sniffed. "You're always out with other cyres.. and now you have wings . You could go anywhere in the world!" Cassie handed him a tissue and sighed. "I guess I have been out a lot...And you're right, I could go anywhere I want now. But the only place I wanna be is right beside my lil brother." She said, giving him a nuzzle. Sprout closed his eyes, giving one more hiccupy sob before falling silent by Cassie's side.
he's a bit of a crybaby if you haven't noticed-
a few hours later
Cassie had stepped out to buy some vegetables for dinner and Sprout was hard at work at his worktable. He'd gathered some leaves, grasses and tiny flowers, as well as the remnants of his daisies, and was making a gift for Cassie. An apology gift, he decided. He knew he shouldn't have yelled-Cassie was just out trying to enjoy herself. And she didn't mean to destroy his flowers. Sprout vowed to not be such a heckin crybaby next time. Just as he was finishing up the present, Cassie came in. "Hey, Beansprout!" She greeted, setting a tote bag full of food on the counter. "Hey, Cas." Sprout replied, slowly sliding the gift behind his back. "Whatcha working on?" She asked, peering behind him. He struggled to cover it with his paws, but she plucked it off the table before he could do anything about it. "What, do you have the reflexes of spiderman or something now? Geez.." Sprout grumbled, only half-joking. Cassie stayed silent, eyeing the object in her hands. "Is this.. a flower crown?" She asked, glancing down at her little brother. "Yeah, it's... for you. I preserved the daisies and the wildflowers so they shouldn't dry up or anything." Cassie beamed and set the crown on her head. "Oh, and... I'm sorry. I shouldn't have yelled at you.." He added, staring down at the floor. "Hey, it's all good!" She replied, giving him a wide grin. "Do I look like royalty now or what?"

Now you'll always have a piece of me with you. No matter where you go.
