Hello, I'm from ProjectComment

I have to say this image popped out to me when I saw it. I rather like the character’s expression, and what can I say about Magikarp? They’re wonderful if you think about it. XD  The Magikarp is done very well, I like how you’ve shaded them, and their face is like that of “what?!” The way their fins are moving and the beads of water means they’ve jumped out of the pond and are flinging up water with them as they attempt to do one thing… The character also has a nice feel to them as well. It’s rather cartoony, and the pink eyes make me think they love jumping with that Magikarp.

I however have a few things I’ve noticed off the bat. I thought they were jumping to a tree, but it’s the grass below them. The angle of the pond and from where they’re jumping makes it look like the character is lying on the ground. Obviously an angle error. There no definite shadow underneath the character to help pop them out that they’re jumping and the beads of water are a bit too soft. Maybe pop them out with some highlights.

One final note is that you could add in their reflections into the water. This may be challenging, but it’ll help distant them from the ground in case you’re having a hard time with the positioning of ground to people jumping from that angle. It will also separate them a bit.

Overall though I love the detail in the small pond. I can see berries and leave sin there, it’s a very nice touch, and it does look like it’s underwater. The grass is done nicely, love the detail you’ve put into it. I think it’s a nice touch. The
character and Magikarp both look good; you did well in their shading.

Great job, thumbs up all around. Keep up the amazing work.

Hello! I'm here for ProjectComment !
This is such a nice artwork! The thumbnail immediately caught my eye and I'm glad I opened it, it's so cute and well-done! The style you picked is adorable and definitely suits the game! I think picking a more cartoony style instead of a chibi, manga-inspired one was definitely a good choice, more interesting. Moreover I find a cartoon-inspired style is more elastic and suited for doing dynamic poses like the one the character here has! Which, I have to say it, I absolutely love! It gives something more to the illustration and makes it more interesting to look at! His face is also really cute, I love that heart-shaped mouth, it's such a nice touch! The Magikarp looks great! You pulled it off wonderfully, I like it better than in the original style
Your coloring is very pretty to! I have a huge soft spot for soft shading and yours really suits my tastes. I like both your painterly shading and the colours you used, it's very pleasant to look at!
It's really hard for me to pick things that need to be fixed and they're mostly really small details, like the right hand of the boy, you made the thumb on the opposite side! And maybe his open legs make the pose look less fluid and a bit messy, but this is more of a personal opinion than a "mistake"!

Thanks! I keep feeling like there's something missing, but comments like yours make me think twice!

Magikarp used splash. It had no effect.

This picture on the other hand, has the "effect" of being nice, cheerful, and well-drawn.

I really like this piece, and it was pulled off really well.
The shading and lighting could be better. I suggest using a softer brush setting. The grass and dirt could be a little more smudged, to give them a slightly better look.
The shadow looks a little weird. Try to position it better next time. Also, it should be a little bigger. It should line up with the body better
The colors look very nice, but I feel like they would look better if they were smudged a little. Smudging really makes a piece!
The legs could use more lighting; they look a little bland compared to the rest of the piece.
I really like the overall piece, and it is very pleasing to look at. The water is very interesting. The anatomy is very nice, better than a lot of art I've seen.
You should be very proud of yourself! The opacity on the water droplets should be lower, to make them blend in more. Also, there should be more lighting on them.
Great piece overall!! Very pleasing to look at!! You are a really great artist
The style goes well with the overall concept of the piece.

What do mean by smudging--could you give an example? This definitely isn't my best piece but I tend to like the way I shade.

by smudging, I mean using the smudge tool more
Here's an example of work with a lot of smudging:

Well my program doesn't have that tool. And I always felt like smudging is really hit or miss anyway. I like airbrushing! But I still appreciate the time you took to give your critique so thanks a bunch!

I was so thinking of that ridiculous minigame when I saw this. I loved that minigame so much.

I'm on my 40th or so generation of Magikarp now...they're all my children. I was naming them after planets but I ran out so now it's after Jupiter's and Saturn's moons :3

Oh wow! I love this piece a lot ;v;
Like, the style is very fitting with the concept of this, and the lighting also suits it very well. I really like the affects you added, even the minor ones like the spots of brighter colors on the clothes and Magikarp, as well as the faint rays of light that are coming from the pond. I also like the brightness of this picture, it adds a very nice touch to it.
Amazing job!! You've earned yourself a watch!!
