Description
One thing I love about my City of Misfit Heroes setting is that it extends far beyond Ray Girl and her team. Both forward and backward in time, in fact. Two heroes, the first from fifteen years in Ray Girl's past, and one from fifteen years after the Cone and other villains . They are:Automaton- the Iron Age of superheroes takes place in history between the signing of a treaty to outlaw superheroes and the time in which the world decided heroes were needed again. Their activity kept to a minimum, the nations of the world preferred to put their faith in weapons, which are tested in remote locations. The detonation of a nuclear device on the Moon damages an advanced alien probe which was monitoring Earth. Pieces of it rain down to Earth, and a segment of its polymorphic metal hull is studied in the United States. Still containing traces of the probe's programming, it reaches out trying to gather information to repair itself. Its electrical field melds with the minds of several soldiers and scientists on site, and from them creates a human-like mind of its own, albeit highly advanced. Scared and confused by its new sentience, the being flees, possessing its own magnetic field and the scientific knowledge on how to use it to fly away. It is eventually tracked down by one of the scientists who it bonded with, who promises to keep it safe. The being, which dubs itself the Automaton, says that it has gained a love of superheroes from some of those whose minds he is based off of. Wanting to make a positive impact on the world because that is what a hero would do, Automaton becomes a superhero in an age where they are shunned and disgraced, never faltering in his quest for peace and humanity even at great personal sacrifice.
Day Knight- Wayne Kordet was a walking encyclopedia of all things superhero, being able to immediately answer trivia from any era. It was the main thing that connected him to his best friend Jay Rickles. Looking for a thrill, the two got a tip from online message boards that there was supervillain activity in their area. Investigating, they discover a lab that is attempting to boost the powers of the human brain, turning weak telepaths into powerhouses. Discovered, a skirmish leads to the experiments affecting Jay, giving him a vastly superior intellect. Barely managing to escape, the two discuss plans for how to use Jay's new abilities to their fullest. Successfully patenting numerous inventions, the two young friends become quick millionaires. With the gain in capital Jay designs a pod that can train the human body in fitness and fighting technique in a matter of weeks. Having been a bit jealous that fate chose his friend to receive superpowers and not him, Wayne is elated to learn that because of his advanced brain, the pod will not work on Jay. So it's decided that Wayne will use the pod, and Jay will outfit him with gadgets and weapons to become a superhero. Choosing the name and theme of 'Day Knight' in hopes that the name will confuses his enemies, Wayne becomes the best damn superhero he can be with Jay watching his back.
