Description I found a raven feather by this mysterious vacant block.
It might've been used for a stone initial once and they decided to move it elsewhere.
Anyway, as you can see, I used it to frame the feather.
It all worked out perfectly.

Location: Pines Grove Cemetery.
Time of Day: Just after dawn.
Equipment: Olympus C730UZ without tripod attached.
Editor: Photoshop CS - I changed the hue, curves, added soft blur and used unsharp mask.

Quite simple and intense. Solitude, so it seems.
Beautiful work.

Not bad, not bad at all. It's a very groovy composition, has some genuine, very strong feeling to it and yet (rarely enough around here) doesn't take a flying leap over the line into the mawkish and angsty, and is exactly the sort of thing art snobs are talking about when they say 'a picture with a story'. I wouldn't mind having a setup like that myself. However-

"used unsharp mask"

Bad! NO! *whack* The one thing detracting from this image is the huge amounts of visual noise from the stone- the sharp, contrasty dots going from black to white to black again make sure the viewer's looking at anything but the feather, and you went and made it worse by oversharpening. Even on the feather, which is relatively clean, the few tiny spots of dust stand out like they're radioactive. If anything, you should probably have blurred everything but the feather a little, dropped the contrast, and otherwise smoothed out the textures, left it the simple image it should be. The only thing that needs to be sharp in there is the feather and its outline against the stone, and that must have been fine to start with, as the Sharpen filters don't fix stuff like that. I can't tell without seeing the original image, but I bet if you went back to the raw and did a little tweaking in the opposite direction you'd make the image about a bazillion times better. And seeing as it's such a nifty composition even a background that looks like my avatar couldn't kill it, that'd be something to see indeed.

Apparently so! :.)
I'll lay off or reduce the unsharp mask with future works.
