Description
I was asked once to do an image of Pern and four views representing north, south, east, and west. Well, for you Pern fans, here it is. The planet Pern and those views. You can see where is where in this image.Pern © Anne McCaffery, but this image belongs to me.

Outstanding! I'm planning to do a flat Pern map in fabric, but this is so beautiful I just had to mark it as a favorite. Admiral Benden would be proud.

it's looks like combination of the two superconinets of earth Pangaea and Rodinia from space also it's a healthy distance away from the sun 4/5 this what earth will look like in about 90-100 million years

I would like to say that Pern is not the idealistic utopia some people make it out to be. It is pretty, it has neat creatures, but even without the thread, there are problems.

such as? I mean no planet is perfect to tell the truth. No matter how civilized the people on it are. Nature is always against you. No living person is perfect,. There will be criminals, dictators, greedy pricks like Fax, and Toric amongst other things.

What I mean is, they live in a pre-industrial world. The comforts that we are used to now, we wouldn't have on Pern. Even with AIVAS's intervention. It's still basically pre-industrial.

That's not such a bad thing. Considering that at the end of the Skies of Pern they have a lot more technology than they first had. In the end they would not be unhealthy, lazy, even obese or overweight, and would not rely on technology so much to entertain themselves, do things for them etc. Over all it would make things a lot simpler, and a hell of a lot less complicated. But that does not mean that I approve of the fact that they don't have some of the ingenious machines we have today.

It would be a shock for us to readjust ourselves to their way of life. For me it's just a great place to visit, but I wouldn't want to live there.

understandable. I can agree with you about not being able to adjust to that kind of lifestyle. It would be a lovely place to visit. Though like they said in the book it would probably take a good 15-20 years to get there, and you would have to sleep through most of that trip.

I have to say that that is the most beutiful thing I have ever seen. The Dragons of Pern series is one of my favorets ever. So this I'm just going

That is beautiful. I read the joke one first but since I've only read a novel I didn't get it. I don't have a book with a map atm but I'm totally going to try and find the different places. If I remember. Some of the edges look pretty straight though, but I believe the books had them like that too.

The Joke can only be gotten if you've played both the Xbox game Halo and read the Pern series.

Still don't really see any Ice Caps. The only places that look like they could be Ice Caps look more like Deserts.

Well, that's how it looks. And they are there. I put them there in the texture, so they are there. They're just small like Mars.

I definitely recognize the south, since that's where my role play group is based. But looking at a flat map, I'm having trouble with the western continent. It looks too far east. >> But I'm spatially inept, so don't take my word for it.

Nope, that's where the Western Continent is supposed to be. I based all the continents on the map drawing in the books, so, that's where it is. That ocean that it rests in is huge.

It's a fictional planet from a book series by Anne McCaffrey. Also spelled "Pern" (without the dots). It was originally an acronym for "Parallels Earth, Resources Negligible". ^^

Yup. So someone looking at it from a ship in space might see "P.E.R.N." but its inhabitants just call it "Pern".
