Description A cookie for those who caught the Dune reference in the title.

You know it's bad when pretty much the God of the Multiverse is looking at your galaxy with sad eyes.

Takhisis (Tiamat) regrets trapping that monster King Ghidorah in our galaxy. But lucky for her, there's Kiryuu, Alan, Telek, and of course Shepard to kick his ass.

And yes, as you can see, those are the cords Technomancers have at the back of their necks. It is because when a Technomancer Connects to gain their knowledge, they connect directly to our favorite five-headed dragon goddess. Go figure. Bet the Pantheon of Krynn or even D&D in general didn't think that could happen.

One thing you must know, Technomancers do NOT worship Takhisis nor does she want them to. They just use her unlimited knowledge to understand how to warp reality so that they could build starships, weapons, and manipulate matter on a limited level. And also they can upload information to her to be stored for future generations to access. Yeah, that's right, I turned the Queen of Darkness into a gigantic Internet. Tada! I've got an odd imagination.

Well, considering the origins I've given her, she's got a "human" side.

That's what I like about your writing; you take these almost abstract characters and make them much more complex than in a simple game or cartoon. I'm sure you could even take something like the Slenderman, a character created on the internet and given life through a combination of memetic power and being just plain spooky, and you'd make him into an intelligent villain as well as drop-dead horrifying.

LOL, I can always try.

I know, even my gods are abstract. I mean, take Galen for one thing! Of course Tiamat probably more abstract that he is.

Galen, I know he puts forth the image of being charming and heroic, it gets weird when you remember he's literally living a lie.

Ghostwalker2061 In reply to maxvision92 [2011-05-30 18:30:03 +0000 UTC]

He is living a lie. He wants to live that lie. Galen is Bahamut, but he doesn't want to be Bahamut. He's happy living the lie. He's not only charming and heroic, but he's also trying to make himself appear down to earth and your average Joe. And even that's a lie because you know he isn't the average Joe, he's a fucking all-powerful god! But he doesn't want to be that anymore because he knows that as an all-powerful god, he sucks.

Well, Tiamat (Takhisis) is a bit different. She wanted her position because she knew that the old way of creating life wasn't going to help withstand against the Far Realm invasions. So, she plays the part of the evil goddess to create hardships in people's lives so that they could strengthen themselves. But when that backfires because all the gods looked at her as the enemy, she decides to take down the current High God, absorb his powers and knowledge and become the new High God. And yeah, that's how she's abstract.

My version of Tiamat isn't evil, she just does evil things to make life itself stronger so they can be prepared to go against something like King Ghidorah.

Poor fellow. It's one of those, "he'd give it all up if he only could" moments, from what I gather. But it sounds like the universe needs the six-winged creator god more than it would want Galen O. Hm, sounds a little like a friend of his.

Even in just the world of DnD, I see Tiamat's destructive power as a needed balance to Bahamut's creative power. If she plays the part of an evil god, the mortal races, like you said, would become stronger. If I remember correctly, the Player's Handbook showcases a balanced number of good and evil gods, plus the neutral ones. The problem comes when the balance is upset, say by the lich god of necromancy going on a rampage that destroys the multiverse. After that, the gods of good would start to look different at Hextor, Grummsh, Tiamat, Wee Jas, Nerull, etc.

Well, in this Multiverse, she's the Overseer of both Creation and Destruction. But she isn't allow to interfere with Life unless the ultimate SHIT happens and the Multiverse is on the verge of complete Existence Failure...like when Vecna showed up and fucked with it.

I mean, she has to listen to people and Gods coming to her, begging her to fix whatever it was they screwed up and she tells them: "I'm sorry, I can't." Even when she wants to, she can't. She's the most powerful being in the Multiverse and she can't do anything. She just throws her claws up in frustration, finds a bed, crashes in it, and cries herself to sleep over the fact she can't do anything.

She can't do anything evil, she can't do anything good, she can't do anything. If she does, then she has to balance that out with doing something else similar.

So, basically, yeah, her life equally sucks.

She wanted that power as High God; too bad it comes at a price of almost total non-interference. That'll make any actual villain who aims for that kind of power think twice.

Ghostwalker2061 In reply to maxvision92 [2011-05-30 19:09:36 +0000 UTC]

Well, like I said, she's not exactly the villain, she just played one to strengthen Life. But she wanted the complete power so that she could have control over Create and remake it so it would be automatically be stronger and be able to live without the direct interference of gods. Which is why there is Rule One. "No God is to completely interfere with Free Will or the course of Evolution." When Bahamut broke that rule, Tiamat punished him.

maxvision92 In reply to Ghostwalker2061 [2011-05-30 19:22:35 +0000 UTC]

So, she wanted to ensure the good races were strong enough to face the evil that seeps from the Far Realm, and instantly by recreating it? And at the same time, Bahamut broke Rule No. 1. I follow so far. And when Tiamat gained this power, it came at a price that makes her keep regretting that decision. Have I got it yet?

Ghostwalker2061 In reply to maxvision92 [2011-05-30 19:35:08 +0000 UTC]

It makes her regret that she can't interact herself because well, being the High God made her turn into Uber Mom. And then when she realizes that the only time she can interfere it's pretty much when everything has fucked up and it's literally unfixable. So, the only thing she can do is sit and twiddle her thumbs until that happens. Which means she has to watch a shit load of people die before that happens. And many of them get absorbed into Far Realm beings or transformed into Abominations. And there you have it.

She took a job which gives her unlimited power and she's trapped by it because she knows if she interferes, then pretty much Reality itself will break down.

I understand all this. She was once part of the forces keeping reality in balance, now she has to maintain in the worst way. It's clearer to me after having recently seen Spoony's review of Ultima VII Part 2: The Serpent's Isle, where we saw what happens when that balance is disrupted.

What did Bahamut do that made Tiamat decide he was no longer fit for duty, anyway?

Well, the level of detail is what I've come to expect from you. I'm still curious about that video you mentioned earlier. Wouldn't mind seeing you color.

As to the rest I can only think of one thing: I have not seen you do a lot with the background. Not just on this piece but it seems somewhat recurring. (space or a more abstract motive.) Come to think of it there's a few things I haven't seen you do a lot yet. (at least not *here*) Which are: people, buildings and vehicles.

Now, you don't have to prove anything to me. But I assume you are aspiring to be an illustrator, no? I am no expert but those sort of seem like things you may be asked to do a lot.

I'm primarily a character designer. However, if you want to see my um...backgrounds, I suggest you take a good look at some of my 3D images.

The Battle Scene had a background in it. It had buildings, an ocean...

Well, the only reasonable advice I have is that if you are looking for feedback on a more professional level I'd suggest getting in touch with your peers. And as luck would have it this is perfect platform of it. Aside from classes and self-teaching, exchanging ideas with fellow illustrators who already do what you like to do seems like a good idea to me.

Let's see, I assume you like D&D? (The dragons, not sure about the dungeons .). These guys have illustrated for WotC. I'd try to get in touch with them:

I've talked with a few of them, they're nice guys who'd be happy to talk about art, after all, in the end we are all just people who like to draw.

Ghostwalker2061 In reply to Netarliargus [2011-05-30 19:29:12 +0000 UTC]

No, that's fine. I can just figure out on my own. Besides, I've got tricks up my sleeves anyway that can get around some of the issues you're talking about.

If they come themselves and volunteer the advice that's fine, but I have reservations about asking people for it. It makes me seem like someone who's trying to get some sort of whiny attention from someone who's more skilled than me. And I don't want to seem like I'm turning that.

Netarliargus In reply to Ghostwalker2061 [2011-05-30 19:45:22 +0000 UTC]

Independent eh? I like that. Personally I don't mind if people ask me for advice or to look at their work. It means they take me serious and I don't think it's whiny if it's done with genuine interest instead of just seeking attention.

Admit, you would like it if your favorite artist looked over your work, no?

Heh, Chris,Fortune favors the bold. And I am bold enough to admit when someone draws better then I do and want to learn from them. It's still a step down from being rude though, if you ask it nicely and introduce yourself properly.

You told me Todd Lockwood is one of your favorites? He's one of mine too so I just went "why not?" His mail address is on his site: [link] I mailed him, said who I was and asked his opinion. Turns out he was happy to, it only takes a few minutes.

Worth it? Totally.

What's the worst that could happen? That he says "no"? Well, it won't be the first and it won't be the last time you'll hear a "no" in your life.

I'd offer to ask it in your stead but I get the feeling that won't sit right with you, no?

Ghostwalker2061 In reply to Netarliargus [2011-05-30 21:14:41 +0000 UTC]

Sometimes I ask others to ask for me mostly it's because it doesn't make me look like I'm bragging. I don't brag too much about myself. Something my mother never liked me to do even if it was on something I did really well. I've been always told to wait and hear what other people say first.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Netarliargus In reply to Ghostwalker2061 [2011-05-30 21:32:37 +0000 UTC]

There's being proud of something you did and there's bragging, that's only when you rub it into someone's face.Though if you never ask, you may never know.

I can understand it. it's not that easy to walk up to someone who's better at something you do and ask for their opinion. "He's not going to like it anyway." or "Why would he take notice, I am not half as good as he is." are things that may go through your mind. It's intimidating.

I'll let you in on something. You draw better then I, so I had the same feeling when I walked up to you and yet here we are, talking to one another. There's common ground, in the end you both share a passion.

(Heh, the reason I've not and will not ask your opinion is because you've made it quite clear you don't like it. Polite, remember.)

My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic, the shockingly high quality new series on Hasbro's Hub channel. Before you laugh, I feel I should inform you that this show was launched by Lauren Faust, who worked on The Iron Giant, The Powerpuff Girls, Foster's Home For Imaginary Friends, she's got a pretty good pedigree for making kid-friendly animation that adults can enjoy, and this is no exception.

I think he's referring to this piece of fanart for the show: [link] showing the show's "Mane 6", plus Spike, discovering just how freaky some fans can get.
