Description
Anyway, I got this idea after a small conversation with a friend about statues. We were talking about statues, and for some reason, my friend said that statues (if they are on a piller) remind him of chess pieces. I am not sure why, but that sparked my interest into attepting this piece. Of course, I had no idea it would take this long either.

Well, unlike the Harry Potter ones, they would not hit eachother and break eachother. But I am pondering on animation.

I am sure you could if you tried.
The way one of my teachers said it, "We can do all things as long as we put our mind too it. If we focus on 'not being able to do it,' then we surely cannot, for that is how we have already parcieved it. But if we have confidence and attack it with an open mind and a drive to thrive, then surely something good will come out in the end."

I would love to ahve one myself as well. I use to do some wood work a short while ago, maybe I could attempt it again and making myself one! It would be 'interesting' looking nonetheless.
for the kind words. They are greatly appreciated.

yes. and i still find it totally unimpressive and say that it sucks. perhaps if you animated it i'd change my opinion probably but dont count on it.

I'm not the artist of this piece. I just found your comment so worthless and tactless, that I had to ask to give you the benefit of the doubt. However, I believe I understand the predicament now. You, in all your greatness of taking snapshots and calling them art and posting them on this site, are a wonderful judge of artistic merit.
I hope the artist of this piece doesn't take your words to heart.

Do not worry. I am not. I have had to deal with people like this before on my "fuzzle" art. While I find the manner that he used to say what he might feel slightly distasteful, I value his opinion, for that is all that it is.
Based on what I have seen thus far, he is the only one (at least that has said anything) who has a negative view on it. That much in my opinion shows much to me.
I thank you for your kind words. It is going to take some time to go through all these comments and messages.
ps.
My only critique with this is that I wish he gave more then just "retarded." Why does he see it as that? What 'exactly' does he not like? How can I possibly improve it (other then animate it)? etc. All the basic, common knowledge ways of letting others know what they can possibly do to improve.

"fuzzle"?
interesting name.
anyways, for this thing at hand. it is nice work, dont get me wrong, but it isnt "Daily Deviation" kind of work, i fail to be amazed or even awestruck by this. people call me an eternal pessimist(glass half empty ), but thats the way i see things. i'm not playing the devils advocate.
i simply gave my critic. perhaps not too constructive, but still a critic. if this were animated, i'd be awestruck or to be more precise plainly impressed, but as it isnt... its just a big old meh by me.
cheers

It's barely a critique in the least sense. Saying it's "retarded" and "it sucks" is more like an insult. Good thing the creator is tolerant about it...most aren't remotely this patient. Tact is usually a good thing.
I agree on how animation would make it even more interesting than it already is, but it's about saying it without being rude.

I have been looking into an animation version of it. I am currently looking at how to make it look like the pieces are moving all around eachother. That is going to be a hard part with animation on this one.
As to the rest of your comment, the way I see it is that I cannot please everyone. This is just a prime example of what it will be like when i finally finish college and make my way into "the real world." Some are going to like what I do, some are not. I just have too accept that fact and move on. I can try to defend myself, but once their mind is set, what can I do to change it?
I thank you for the nice words nonetheless. I appreciate them much.

No problem. Oh, and don't get me wrong, I like the deviation in itself. I never would have that of that.
Heh, you're just about one of the most level-headed artists I've come across on this site!

Well, there is one problem with your analises at hand (sorry, I am trying to not be mean spirited here, just pointing something out).
As you have stated, but it isnt "Daily Deviation" kind of work. The problem is that, there is not set standard on what "art" is "Daily Deviation work." As it has been stated thousands of time before in news article, in comments, in journals from staff and others, the Daily Devations are only "what the staff likes." Nothing more, nothing less.
With that, how can there be a "Daily Devation" kind of work? I do not see the connection there at all.

pecenipicek In reply to GibbyGibson [2005-11-27 14:15:12 +0000 UTC]
yes, i see that now.
well, from my point of view, "Daily Deviation" kind of work would be somethign really impressive and beautiful in every stretch of the definition. as you pointed out, what the staff likes is... well... i tend to disagree with staffs choice this time. simple as that...
and as you can see, i'm one of the rather rare undefined people here, and most certainly am not a devart suckup like most of the "OH NOEZZ!!! Jark IS LEAVING, THERE IS NO MORE dA!!!!111!!!" people. i am also not on the side of the other guy, and i actually dont like dA too much. only reason i'm here on dA is the fact that its one of the rare places where i can post my 3D stuff and hope somebody will actually notice it...

Once again, there is something too consider. We all have our own definition of "beautiful." You might have said every stretch of teh definition but that definition is different upon the person, meaning that the "stretch" is not the same. What you see is beautiful is not the same (maybe) as what I see.
i tend to disagree with staffs choice this time. simple as that...
And your thoughts are welcome. I just wished it was instead of insulting feeling that it was more critique oriented. Why is it "retarded"? If that is how you see it, how could (based on your definition) be changed to be better (other then animation)? Stuff like that would help greatly; much more then just "it sucks" ... "retarded."
Anyway. I am glad to hear from you. It gives me a chance too hear from all points of view, instead of just one.

well, other then the animating it, i dont think you could make it better in any way, its pixel art, it cant be made any better, the only other thing you can do to better it is by animating it
thanks
