I was hoping for Discord to win, but I guess the outcome we got makes sense. We don't know if Discord's spirit can regenerate, because it was never shown in a situation where it would need to, who knows, maybe it can, we don't know.

Still, I promised my friend that I would make something like this.

This outcome happened because Discord made a copy of himself to fight Bill while he went to find Ford's quantum destabilizer and amplified it with his own magic. Right after the final scene of the battle, Discord blasted Bill in the face, completely vaporizing him, Discord was surprised that his plan worked.
