Description In mid Tel-Aviv, they sold a huge wall for advertising and covered it with a poster for a fashion company.
The poster is very provocative, mybe a bit too much.
You go down the street and find yourself passing between some girl legs...

I see this a statment of the commercial gods, sending their "models" to look down on the little common people, like us.
You can see another example of this street photography here

"Stand on a tall roof and look down at all the heads walking down the street. Do you really feel everyone is different from that prespective?" Yeah, different hair, hats, clothes, glasses etc. Nobody takes exactly the same steps as another person, just like nobody has exactly the same views.
"When you force people, all people, do [to] deal with issues of sex, just walking down the street, it's called provocation." Provoking them to do/feel what though? Provoking them to make themselves look sexy? You seem to like the word "provocation" quite a lot yet you don't say in your description exactly what they're provoking. I wouldn't mind except 90% of the picture isn't really your own work. It's someone elses poster. I thought that the description would have to be very profound and intelligent - you know, something witty that could stand on it's own as a piece of written work considering the visual piece is actually pretty amateur. Instead it's just a knee-jerk reaction because you can see some flesh.
What does all this have to do with this poster and your message? As far as I can tell, you know 'cas you haven't actually spelt it out yet, you don't like this poster because it is too sexy. Yet you yourself said lust is a good thing. So you're being hypocritical. You're also being short-sighted - these models can only be seen to be looking down on people if you perceive yourself to be looking up to them. Who's there to look down on if no-one's looking up? And what's wrong with looking up? Like I said, it creates ambition. So the advertiser uses it to sell products - so what? Face up to reality, people aren't gonna buy stuff if there's some ugly person wearing the clothes.
"It's ok to feel differently" - Please don't patronise me.

i dunno, maybe its cause i live in a big city but i just dn't get worried by this kind of thing at all. actually, i think its badass how we can print things so big now...id love to see some of my work take up a whole wall of someones city. and as far as sexual imagery is concerend i have seen much worse, i mean at least the models are fully clothed. and whether or not you think the models are looking down on you 'little common people' is probably dependant on your view of models in society anyway.

nevertheless this is a good shot

It's no so bad, as it is provocative.
I wish for my work to be there too. It's not the size they used.
It's the way they used the size to provoce

His water bottle seems strategically placed.
But nah, I totally see where this is coming from. Americans talk about spreading freedom, but what they mean is economic enslavement and acculturation.
It's really quite sickening

That really interesting that the companies would actually do that. Thats a really different marketing strategy.

There's nothing provocative about walking between a womans legs, as long as it is a poster.
People are too used to this kind of advertisment to find it provocative... If it had been a totaly naked woman I could see your point.

๐Ÿ‘: 0 โฉ: 1

gilad In reply to loximaxus [2005-05-22 17:09:56 +0000 UTC]

I don't agree.
Take this for example.
The mens head is directly in front of the womans suggestive (but very obvies) genetelia.
You feel self concense just walking pass it, thinking what people would think if you looked at the poster right now....

It's funny and cool, and gets the attention. But do you really think the advertises didn't do that on purpse? And if they did, wasn't that the idea? To create a provocation that gets the message of the brand acroos - creating a teasing provocation..

Trust me, I work in advertising.
I know what i'm talking about.
I belive in smart and inteligent advertising, and less use of provocation just for the sake of it.

BTW
nudity can be less provocative that suggestive one.

๐Ÿ‘: 0 โฉ: 2

loximaxus In reply to gilad [2005-05-23 06:19:47 +0000 UTC]

I agree with you up to some point.
I would say that this kind of advertisment provoced people when it was new.
Now everyone has seen a half naked woman. Even in their everyday life.
I'm just saying that this kind of advertisment is to "common" to provoce anyone any more.

I also agree that the once who made this want attention.
And offcourse they know what to do to reache out to people.

My point is just that this kind of provocation is to common...
It's becoming almost natural.

And your last point:
That depends how the picture was shot.
Artistic nude and pornography is two very different things.

๐Ÿ‘: 0 โฉ: 1

gilad In reply to loximaxus [2005-05-23 07:37:09 +0000 UTC]

Mybe it's very common somewhere else than i know.
Israel has advertising based on nudity and provocation too.
Still, you can see the comments all over this piece, people wouldn't want to walk pass this in the street.

You are more than welcome to see the facts reflected in the little survey this comments show. It's provocative...

I didn't mean artistic nudity. I meant nudity in advertising.

i captured this really at the right moment, the way the painted man is looking to the man who is walking by..damn,it's like he actually see him walking..perfect time,contrast,composition,color..perfect photo.

Thank you my friend.
I bet you will get as good as me, if you are not better than me akready...
In art i don't belive in levels of "good" or "bad". We all do different things.
Some will find your work better, and others, will find mine. In subjective.

I love your work, my friend.

But todays ads can be so degrading at times...
I don't know, I just totally disagree with the way woman are used in todays ads

Commercialism can be quite overwhelming, sometimes we find ourselves helplessly dangling on the end of an advertisers line, we're hooked. I love how the male model on the right is looking down directly at the little man, its s if he is thinking, "you pathetic little human being". Great work.

WOW. At first I thought you photographed those two models (I didn't see the person walking in the thumbnail). I thought it was kinda strange to see a fashion pic like that coming from yourself. But then bam, I saw it bigger and realized what was going on, and I was awe struck for a second. It shows very well how advertising companies can sometimes try so hard to cram their images down our throats.

I think the suggestion was, "buy these shoes and you'l be up for a blow job."

Great shot.
