Is the blurriness of the trees in the background down to DOF? Or are the trees moving and the boats stationary?

👍: 0 ⏩: 2

araevoi In reply to araevoi [2008-04-30 11:06:43 +0000 UTC]

That's very clever! I'd have thought that the boats wouldn't have moved in complete synchronization so they'd become blurry too. I guess the exposure was short enough to limit that then. Very creative!

gilad In reply to araevoi [2008-04-30 08:17:37 +0000 UTC]

I'm standing on a near boat so I'm moving with the boats, and the longer exposure blurrs the background. So, it's king of panning

I love the black faded border around the edge. Is it natural? Or did you edit it in?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

gilad In reply to AusTryHard [2008-04-29 17:03:09 +0000 UTC]

The dark edge is because of the filter and lighting. I did burn a bit on the left side to balance all sides like that

I like the depth of field on this one, and how the blurred trees make it look like it's windy to add more calm on the focus of the boats. lol been reading photography books of late.

is your nikon d70 moded to take ir? i cant seem to get anything under a 30 second exposure with my rebel xti...

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

gilad In reply to InnocentFrank [2008-04-29 08:13:45 +0000 UTC]

The Nikon is much better for IR than the rebel, or any canon. It's done with my regular D70 and the Hoya R72 filter

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

InnocentFrank In reply to gilad [2008-04-30 05:58:47 +0000 UTC]

thank you very much, i have a Hoya R72 filter as well, but it is fit with a 62-67 changing ring do you think the ring could be a source of blur? i am having difficulty getting crisp ir pics. Thanks again!

gilad In reply to InnocentFrank [2008-04-30 08:30:00 +0000 UTC]

No, no effect. It's the canon i'm afraid
