Description Fourth in a series of 6.

This is an idea I've been toying with for a while, but never gotten around to doing 'til now... to redo the Sin City posters with Disney Princesses.

When the idea came to me, I just thought it was too great a concept not to do... just hadn't got around to it for a while. BUT, now'in that I have, I'm crankin' them right on out, and next on the platter is Jasmine as Miho.

Even though my sister kept insisting I use Snow White as Miho, because Snow White and Devon Aoki have a strong resemblence in the cheeks, I had always planned to use Jasmine... mostly because... Devon has a very ethnic (for lack of a better word) look to her... and Jasmine is the most ethnic of the six princesses I'm using. Completely different ethnicity true, but as a cartoon character... it still works. Mostly because of the eyes, I think. Jasmine's eyes convince me I made the right decision. They Miho'ify her.

SPECIAL ARTIST'S NOTE: IF YOU COMMENT BELOW ABOUT HOW YOU THINK THIS DRAWING SHOULD HAVE BEEN MULAN, I WILL MURDER YOU AND YOUR ENTIRE FAMILY, AND EAT YOUR FREAKING SOULS! READ THE OTHER COMMENTS! I'M NOT A MORON! I KNOW MULAN IS CHINESE! IT WAS MY DECISION. I MADE IT. I'M SICK OF HEARING IT! GO **** YOURSELVES! (And I mean that in the nicest possible way.)

The interesting thing about this one, is, Miho doesn't actually have an official poster of her own. I had to make this one up really. I used a promotional picture of her, from the movie's website, for the pose... re-arranged the composition to poster size... picked a quote from the movie that I though worked for the poster, and voila... we have a makeshift, no-existant Miho poster.

Anyway...

All characters, logos, and miscellaneous brickabrack copyright Disney, Dimension Films, and their original creators who's names I don't know. (But if they'd like to contact me, I'd be more than happy to credit them.) Created for entertainment purposes only, please don't sue me.

I dunno why I never noticed that before... but I assume I'll forget to fix it for about three more years, just like the last time this happened in one of my drawings with a caption. But thanks anyway. (Really)

I know you said you're using Disney princesses...but why choose Jazmin of Mulan?? (Yes, yes I know mulan isn't a 'technical' princess...getting over that detail though... >.>; ) I'm not going to put my foot in my mouth, but I am curious on the reasoning...since, you know, this whole series rocks!!

Still, I love Miho...she's definately one of those characters where you have to wonder, just what is her story exactly?

I love this series! Though, I would have ditched the Princess strictness and used Mulan. I'm a bit annoyed by the way they label that line anyway, because, actually, Mulan is now considered part of it, and I don't see why (check the new Disney Princess DVD that came out last week to see what I mean, they have her as part of the group, but you'd have to actually watch it to see what I'm talking about), and Princess Eilonwy isn't ever included.

Look at the comments that Gillbob made. Mulan isn't a princess, she was a general in her storyline. Read her actual history over the Disney version.

slave2moonlight In reply to XNekoXMika [2007-09-13 00:14:19 +0000 UTC]

I know she's not really a princess, but she is being included in the official princess line-up anyway, as I said. If you purchase the new Disney Princess DVD, the opening takes you into the Disney Princess castle where some sort of sacred book is kept. Along the hallway are portraits of the princesses AND Mulan. Within the book are stories of the princesses AND Mulan. So, though she's NOT a princess, she is now part of the official Disney Princess cast.

*Slaps Forehead* God I wish I didn't have to keep making this damned response...

Honestly, you're only like... the 100th person to bring it up...

This is pretty much a copy/paste of a thread from another forum, where someone said nearly the exact same thing you just did...

But here goes anyway...

Jasmine, Snow White, Aurora and Ariel were all born Princesses. (Furthermore, Ariel, Snow White & Aurora also each married a prince of their own, just to further cement things.)

Belle and Cinderella both married a prince... thus inheriting the title...

Mulan was the daughter of a respected war veteren, and she married a high-ranking soldier. She was neither born a princess, nor did she marry a prince, thus, strictly speaking, she is not a princess. (And I have watched Mulan, many times in recent years, because it's one of my favorite Disney movies. I love her to death, and truthfully like her better than all six of the girls I used, but she's just not a princess, so I didn't feel it would be right to use her. Trust me on this, as I rant on...)

Like Tinkerbell, Alice, and some of the other ladies, sometimes Disney will lump Mulan in with the actual princesses just because they have the leg room too do so, and would like to market one extra character, (because there's no such thing as too little advertising) but typically, more often than not, she is not depicted with the princesses , because she is not, in fact, a princess.

The six girls I used are the princess "A" team, so to speak. The actual princesses that is to say. Sometimes the other chicks pinch hit if there are extra innings, but they are not part of the actual lineup.

While I can see plain as day that Mulan is on Disney's princess website, along with Pocahontas, this is nothing more than one of those rare lumpings I mentioned. Typically, the two of them, along with Esmerelda, Megara, Tinkerbell, Alice, and several other Disney Females, while popular and recognizable, are not included in "Princess" lines of merchandise... because none of them are technically Princesses.

And to support that claim, I give you the following images, all found merely by google image searching the term "Disney Princesses"...

Cereal:
[link]

Balloons:
[link]

Stickers:

A Mug Set:

DVDs:
[link]

Bedroom Sets:
[link]

Barbies:
[link]

Baked Goods:
[link] ).jpg

Party Supplies:
[link]

Video Games:
[link]

Do you see a pattern? Need I go on?

Notice that not one of said items depicts any of the girls who aren't the six princesses. Now, occasionally, in my search for referance, I would find a picture of some princess merchandise (usually a calendar, which needs to fill 12 whole months) with Mulan or Pocahantas in it, but they were almost always in images where all six of the real princessess were already present. One of the secondary girls save maybe Tinkerbell, will almost never take the place of one of the actual princesses in a group set. As I said, the other "secondary" girls only sometimes get lumped in, as bonus material, when Disney has room for bonus material.

I wanted my drawings to work as a set, so I was merely following this same precident which Disney has set forth, and in following that precident, Mulan did not make sense in this set... as I saw things. (And my little sister agrees with me, and whose a better judge of Disney Princesses then a young girl, I ask you? )

I have no doubt that it would be easy for someone to make the mistake of calling Mulan a Princess, because frankly, due to Disney's inconsistant marketing practices, they themselves oftentimes give the impression she is, and many people can't or won't bother to distinguish such specific distinctions as the ones I just pointed out. To most people, any pretty girl in any Disney flick could be a "Princess" because they may not fully consider the meaning of the title.

But, bottom line, as a normal girl who married a soldier, Mulan is not a princess. No royal ties there what-so-ever.

So I win.

Yeesh I wish I didn't have to keep defending this artistic choice I made to people... Especially since I was right in the 1st place.

Try doing the Disney Princes (not princesses) into Sin City. Like Marv, John Hartigan, Dwight McCarthy, Senator Roark and the antagonists

Mulan isn't a princess, and will not be appearing in this series of drawings.

No, seriously, I had considered Mulan first, but she got nixed for the reason I just gave.

I know this will sound stupid, but classicaly, Disney does have a predetermined group designated "The Princesses." If you search "Disney Princesses" on google, or if you're just buying a coloring book, valentines, dolls, or some other type of merchandise, you'll find that typically Snow White, Cinderella, Ariel, Belle, Jasmine & Aurora are the tight knit group that gets used, because they were all either born princesses, or married princes. Occasionally Tinkerbell will get arbitrarily thrown in too, just because she's really popular amongst girls... but not usually.

Mulan, Pocahontas, Esmerelda, Tinkerbell, Alice, and several other Disney Females, while popular and recognizable, are not typically included in "Princess" lines of merchandise... because they're not technically Princesses.

And incase you're wondering why i know this, I have a little sister, I worked in a toy store, and I'm a big Disney fan. *Shrug*

Seriously though, google image search "Disney Princesses" and you'll see. The six I listed are the Princess "A-Team" if you will... they're on all the merchandising. You'll get lots of results that are group pictures from various merchandising of just those 6.

So they're all I'm doing.

Ahhh. I knew about that group, I just always figured Mulan was in that category (only seen it once, y'see). Still, I admire what you're doing here, with the Sin City posters. Hand drawn or photoshop?
