Octavia sighed, looking over the Canterlot ballroom. For the second year in a row, a certain pink pony and her friends had managed to infiltrate the Grand Galloping Gala, to disastrous results; but this time around she was almost comfortable with this level of disorder.
“Hey Tavi,” a familiar, almost lyrical voice spoke up behind her, “some party huh?”
She looked back, into the devastating ruby eyes of her companion and smiled. “The Grand Galloping Gala always is.”
“Thanks for inviting me. Your band,”
“Ensemble”
“‘Ensemble’ played beautifully, and the food was good. Heh, and that thing with the goat,” catching a glance of Octavia, now cross, “well, I thought it was funny.”
Octavia’s expression softened, as she let a light sigh escape her lips. “Yeah,” she affirmed, “it was a pretty good night all in all. Though with having to entertain all night, and having the party cut short, I never got to dance.”
“Did… did you still want to? Octavia?”
“Even if I did, theres no way I could now, the ballroom is an absolute mess, covered in food, and rubble and all sorts of animal… yuckery… Besides, the band,”
“Ensemble.”
“… has all packed up, there wouldn’t even be music.”
“What you seem to forget, dear Tavi, is that you brought the one and only DJ P0n-3! seamstress of song as your date!” Octavia just rolled her eyes.
“Please, Vinyl, we both know youre not a real musician… besides, you don’t even have your mixer.”
“Octavia? Take my hooves.”
“Vinyl Scratch, what are-”
“Do you trust me?”
“well…”
“Do. You. Trust me?”
“… I’d be lying if I said no…”
“Then c’mon.” they both raised to their hindlegs and took each other’s forehooves, and Vinyl started leading Octavia to the tune of an inaudible waltz.
‘Okay now, Vinyl,’ she said to herself, ‘lets do this right.’ She closed her eyes, and tried to recall the last spell her brother taught her.
“Tavi, my love, my best friend, my dear, I’ll play us some music just we two can hear.”
“What’s that, Vinyl?” the words had just barely escaped her mouth when she began to hear this elegant, slow, but up-tempo serenade… the very song she herself had composed for her audition for this years Gala.
Her song.
Their song.
She closed her eyes and leaned in deep, resting her head on her love’s shoulder.
“Octy?” whispered Scratch.
“Mmmmyes Vinyl?” she breathed, not daring to wake from what must be a most beautiful dream.
“I’m glad you chose to wear your mane down tonight.”
“MmmmVinyl? I’m Glad you didn’t.”
