I feel like there is history behind the older stones surrounded by white. Were these restorations?

Hi there , sorry for taking so long to respond!
I'm not sure about the restorations, i know that the locals used to dig up caves in the rocks of the caldera and stayed there, which are called canaves, that is why the place is so popular to tourists (except from the beautiful sunset) and so many more cave style houses where built after to accommodate tourists. I have explored the place and found old cave houses as well , just small caves that haven't been touched( I'm sure they are going to built there as well at some point.). But nowadays the people that own the hotels are greedy and build these canaves everywhere , it looks beautiful , but it might also be dangerous , i don't know how much more building these calderas can take.

Thanks for the explanation! Seems like a different version of what is going on here.... People are just trying to build as many houses as they can and it's getting to the point where there isn't even room for grass anymore because they back the houses in so tightly. I hope to never live in one of those neighborhoods. If one house catches on fire, the whole neighborhood will go down!
