Description
The wulver is a kind of werewolf that is exclusively part of the folklore of the Shetland Islands of Scotland. The wulver kept to itself and was not aggressive if left in peace. Unlike most 'werewolves' the Wulver is not a shapeshifter and is not nor was it ever a human being. It appears to be a sort of immortal spirit. Jessie Saxby, in Shetland Traditional Lore (Chapter 9), writes, "The Wulver was a creature like a man with a wolf's head. He had short brown hair all over him. His home was a cave dug out of the side of a steep knowe, half-way up a hill. He didn't molest folk if folk didn't molest him. He was fond of fishing, and had a small rock in the deep water which is known to this day as the 'Wulver's Stane'. There he would sit fishing sillaks and piltaks for hour after hour. He was reported to have frequently left a few fish on the window-sill of some poor body."Wulver - Wikipedia

You're welcome.
If he did exist, I do hope he's still around.

Guess he turned to mercenary work since the solitary life of fishing wasn't enough to pay the bills huh?

Funnily enough, there's a type of Werewolf from Ireland called the Faoladh - some of whom would fight as mercenaries for kings/rulers who would pay them as the Faoladh were downright brutal and great in battle. The downside is that the payment for their services wasn't in gold, but in the flesh of newborn babies.
Can you imagine been in battle and fighting side-by-side with an armored werewolf?

I uhhh... actually came up with a character who becomes just that in his adult life: a privateer werewolf (minus the infanticide-induced diet). I didn't actually know that was the role of the Faoladh. I just kinda figured they acted more as protective spirits for wayward children because Irish lore is so far removed from anything Anglo-Germanic/Hellenic that it only makes sense that way.
