It really reminds me of the illustrations in really old children's books, the ones you hope you get when your grandmother dies but are kind of afraid to let your children touch.

Why can't we all just wear bustles again? *sigh* love the dress.

Heck why can't we just wear beautiful clothes again PERIOD! In a world where we hardly have any laborious work to do, you'd think we could dress in more frivolous clothing.

Drawing pretty dresses is extemely theraputic and beneficial to the soul. I had a coloring book when i was little, and it was full of nothing but pages of pretty dresses and a few blank pages on which to draw pretty dresses, and it was my most prized possession. If i could make a living drawing pretty dresses, i'd be the happiest person in the world. As i said, it's like therapy. GOOD therapy.

Well, there's not a huge market for fashion illustrators these days, but most clothing manufacturers do still use artists to do "line sheets" for market.
Thanks for adding me to your friends list. I am amazed by your drawings. They are really great. One of these days, maybe you can tell me what you want to do with that fantastic talent in the future! Hope you went/will go to college.

Right now I'm trying to go into illustrating childrens' books...and writing them as well. That way i can still draw historic fashions... and fanciful beasties, which i'm also very fond of drawing. Anything else my talent is good for requires moving to a big city, and i don't like those. If the editorial option doesn't work for me, i will probably settle for the big city option.
I went to college. It was the wrong college, though, so now i'm looking for a different one. Ill get that Bachelors someday!!!

I would definitely buy a book for my daughter if you illustrated!
I am the same way. I don't mind living NEAR a big town, I just don't want to live IN it! Thank goodness for the internet. They have a great yahoo group for illustrators. You should hang around and see if you can pick up any tips - maybe even a mentor! [link]
There are great tips on how many pages for your submission (to make it fit the printing requirements and standard formatting) and how to make your dummies up. Might be worth a look.
good luck and hope you find a good school. There seem to be so many that just teach you some Traditional skills, but never any practical skills. its too bad. Wish there were some place to actually dissect and analyze all the art fields and help direct you to schools that actually specialize in the different areas. You get out and go to work and have to learn a companies "skill set" and then find out you're not using your talents. You eventually learn, narrowing down the field thru the years until you find your niche. too bad there's not a direct er path!

Thanks! It's because i suffer from the "fear of color" syndrome, where i use as few colors as i can so i'm less likely to botch up the usage of color. Well, i'm glad it seems to work!

You need to oil that imagination of yours and get it working again, deary.

Ihha In reply to GingerOpal [2007-05-26 05:37:43 +0000 UTC]
When I tap into my imagination this is what I get: "Hello, I'm not in right now but if you would like to leave a message I'll get back with you when I'm available" (beep!). Its the same with most my brain.

GingerOpal In reply to Ihha [2007-05-26 17:10:31 +0000 UTC]
And then you hang up because you don't like to leave messages. Don't worry, i'm the same way.
