Description
I haven't sensed this much angst since the 5th Harry Potter!Yeah, I know, this is really stupid.
So I have recently been introduced to the Avatar series (I watched the entire series in less than 3 days
For some reason (I guess from all the fanart I saw before seing the series) I thought Zuko and Katara were supposed to be an item. After watching the cartoons I could see why they wouldn't be an item, so I scribbled this piece of junk.
This is not meant to offend "Zutara" fans. This is just for fun. I don't really even have any fandoms to promote or dis. I just love Avatar.

In the last ever episode I thought they would get together...
I love this it's so freaking hilarious! It reminds me of an episode where Katara meets this old lady who teaches her how to waterbend the water inside people.

*giggle* I like the tearbending reference. I once thought Zutara would be a good pairing, but I had only caught one episode on TV, largely by accident. It was The Western Air Temple, and I have no idea how I got Zutara from... well, that. My only defense for myself is that I was young.
I also watched the entire series in a ridiculously short amount of time, when I found it on Netflix. XD

I got into Zutara after seeing a couple of episodes on tv, I think.
It's just so... steamy
I haven't seen all of Avatar, I only own the first season on DVD, so I'm missing out on all the Tophness and the Zuko-without-pony-tail-ness... D=
Haven't really gotten to see Kataang, either, but I don't think I like it - Katara is way too motherly and mature for him, and I heard she sorta just kisses him because he's the Avatar and he needs to feel good about himself... Which isn't very romantic, it's kinda sad.

Those are the common arguments against Kataang. I can see how Katara's behavior would come across as motherly, but some of us just... are that way. It's our style. It's how we show affection to *everyone.* I mother my own parents sometimes.
As for Aang needing Katara to feel good about himself... well. You'll see. But rest assured, that one's groundless. Frankly, Aang is not that fragile. He could deal with heartbreak if he had to, the same as we all do at some point or another. I think Katara has too much respect for him and for herself to be with Aang just to boost his self-esteem.

Lyra-Cain In reply to Lizai [2010-09-06 07:55:22 +0000 UTC]
I think maybe my problem is I relate to Katara, so I don't understand her choice because it's not *my* choice.
I mother my friends and my parents, it's a way I show affection, too.
But, that affection is never truly romantic - the boys I treat that way have never been people I would really kiss or seriously choose.
And, I like older guys, probably because boys mature slower than girls, and I need them to be able to match me.
So, I don't get it, I want her to be more like me because I find she is a little like me.
Apart from that, I don't understand it anyway, but maybe I will when I get to watch through all the series.
I think Katara might feel obligated to support him, and thats how she thinks she can do it, apart from with friendship and fighting by his side, so not exactly a question of respect.

Really? I would totally pick Aang over Zuko -- I mean, if he wasn't twelve years old. If fourteen and twelve is stretching it, I don't even want to think about twenty and twelve. But seriously, I'd rather be with a happy person than an angst-fest like Zuko. Aang is cheerful, brave, and has a really good sense of fun. I mean, I like Zuko, but I definitely wouldn't date him. He's too serious and broody -- and plus, he tends to get really caught up in his own problems and let his own emotions blind him to the needs of others. I empathize, and I've certainly been there, but that doesn't make him someone I'd want to spend a whole lot of time around. *shrug* I guess it's just a matter of opinion.

Slowly? Are you kidding me? I gave my story to one of my BFFs two months ago and she has gotten to...um...chapter 3. Yes. That's all she's read.
Being sick can be good...sometimes... Depends on how you look at it and how sick you are...

Yeah, well, BFFs are notoriously unreliable readers. Same with family. You gotta have someone who's either reading for fun or reading because they expect to get something out of it. I am reading for fun, AND you are reading my story so it's sort of like I'm getting something out of it, too, so I have TWICE the impetus to read. XD
as sick days go, these were pretty easy ones.

My niece is the only one who's read the whole thing. And my mom has actually read the whole thing, well, the last time I printed it out for her to read. Now I know ALL moms are supposed to love what their kids write, but it actually took me a LOT of courage to ask my mother to read it. Like, 7 years after I started writing. First of all, she's not big on fantasy. She thinks it's okay, she'll read Harry Potter and Discworld, but for the most part she reads historical fiction and non-fiction, rural humor, and Mark Twain. Most moms are "I'll love whatever you do no matter how badly it's written, deary, because I love you!" MY mom is "I love you, but I expect you to write well if you want me to like it." Mom's always done everything to encourage my talents, but has never hesitated to tell me if she doesn't like something I write or draw, and I was so scared she wasn't going to like R&R because I'd worked so hard on it. I was staying at her house when she was reading it, and I'd spy on her. Now one thing you must understand is the only thing that keeps my mom up late is either a good conversation or her sudoku puzzles. So one night I caught her up late TOTALLY READING MY BOOK!!! She NEVER stays up to read books. She was at a suspensful part, and I was soooooo happy. So yeah, if MOM likes my book, it's gotta be worth publishing! (Of course I will NEVER say that to a publisher. "Of COURSE your mom likes your book. That's her job."
)
You totally got a whole paragraph about my mother. Woah. I think the heat got to my brain today at work...

Dude, your mom is like mine! Well, kind of. My mom only reads nonfiction. The only fiction she likes is Jane Austen. She can't get over the fact that my story has "vampires" in it and even after I explained about the avren she can't see them as, like, people or something. I dunno. Like there's very little fantasy elements in my story, I think, but what little IS there is enough to turn her off to it.
ANYHOW. there was a point to this story. oh yes. so I have very few people that I can get to pay attention when I blather about my story, and yet it's more or less all I think about. but parents! parents are contractually obligated to pay attention to their kids' creations, right? RIGHT. so I have made both parents listen to my story read aloud, because I know neither would read it if I gave it to them. my dad is the stereotypical "oh that's great honey!" parent, who never gives any feedback other than that, which is maddening because I don't think he's really interested. and my mom... man. she'll only let me read to her once in a blue moon, and won't let me babble about it without groaning and telling me to finish it already. but she needs to hear it because she is excellent at picking plot holes, because she's such a die-hard pragmatist. but besides that very helpful quality, she doesn't like to give feedback. so let me tell you, I've never had a greater compliment than when one day, after I had read her a particularly pivotal part of the Story, she told me that for the first time she had actually CARED about my characters. So, yes, I know where you're coming from. XDX
High five on getting your mother's stamp of approval!

I personally don't like Katara much as a character, and Zuko can be so dramatic sometimes.
AND YET I AM HARDCORE ZUTARA. The world really doesn't make sense. xD They are so cute together, but alone ... yeah.
Gehd, I think I laughed myself silly. Especially where Katara was all "DON'T MOVE UNTIL I HAVE ENOUGH TEARS FOR A WATER WHIP" or something or other. EPIC line.
