Description
Austria x Dying ReaderPain coursed through your entire body, and you collapsed, falling to your knees onto the dirt floor. For a moment you could only focus on the pain, every nerve in your body screaming at you, pulsating through you, telling you just how much pain you were in. You'd lost all rationality, as you went into a fetal position, crying out in complete and utter agony, unable to control yourself.
Around was the all consuming sound of chaos and despair, leaving all experiencing total blackness of a vast, deep chasm of heart-stopping dread and fear. All encompassing, entirely terrifying. The air was thick with the instantly nauseating stench of blood, hanging over the battle field like an invisible mist, one that could be easily detected by the twisting of ones gut as it invaded their airways. The land was scattered with bodies of the fallen, bloodied and bruised, in an undignified way they didn't deserve, and with each person that joined the dead, you became weaker.
Already, you felt yourself slipping into the darkness, an abyss of numbness, devoid of feeling, and you were partially grateful to escape the pain. The last thing you heard was a familiar voice, calling your name, before you blacked out...
“Please...don't die...”
You were roused by a pleading full of desperation and misery. As soon as you regained feeling, you felt an ache spread throughout your limbs, and with each painful, raspy breath you took, it became more of a struggle to take the next one. You groaned, trying to sit up, but immediately gave up, lying back down as a new pain erupted in your abdomen.
“You're awake!” A relieved cry came, and you cracked an eye open to see Roderich, leaning over you, face painted with distress and concern, violet orbs swirling with anxiety. “Don't try to move. The doctor says you have a chance, but you have to rest.”
“N-no, I-” A coughing fit racked through your frail body before you could finish, and Roderich was quick to to help you, rubbing soothing circles on your back until you were ready to carry on. “I'm not going to make it.” You wheezed.
“Don't say that!” Roderich's eyes were teary, full of hurt and ache. His frown was wobbling as he contained sobs, and you forced a smile onto your face.
“I am. I know it, and so do you-”
“But-”
“We're countries, Roderich. When we no longer have any living citizens...we die.” You croaked, voice sorrowful, but honest. “And I can feel myself fading,” You lifted your hand into your vision, giving a nervous swallow when you saw it had already become slightly transparent. Not wanting to loo anymore, you looked to your side, seeing a wide window, and you realized you were in Roderich's piano room.
“I don't want you to die...I don't want you to leave me!” The tears in Roderich eyes had fallen from their perch, rolling down his cheeks, some dripping to the floor as he wept.
“Y'know, I've had a good life. I've been luckier than lots of people, I got to be alive for hundreds of years, I've met so many amazing people... And I've seen so many die. At every funeral I was at, people were crying, miserable...I don't want that.” You confessed, voice nearly faltering, but you forced confidence into it, “I want people to smile when they remember me, I don't want anyone to be upset...”
Roderich didn't reply. He was staring at you intently, eyes wide, as if he only just realized you were saying your goodbyes.
“Most of all, I want you to be happy,” You told him, taking his hand in yours and rubbing over it with your thumb. It proved to be difficult, as you were sapped of most of your energy already. “So stop crying for me, 'kay? Consider it a last favor, I've always loved you so, I don't wanna see you sad.”
Roderich nodded, hastily wiping his eyes and flashing you an uncharacteristic grin, goofy, but charming, “I love you too.”
You laughed, despite the pain it caused you to do so, it felt good to laugh. You glanced at the piano, sat across the room, wistfully. “Hey, Roderich?”
“Hm?”
“Can you do me one last favor?”
“Anything.”
“Play the piano for me,” You asked, and Roderich nodded gravely, planting a kiss on your forehead, and swiftly walking over to the piano. By the time he sat, you were already going, eyes growing heavy. But as the music started to play, it was cheerful, and beautiful, the melody making you grin widely.
The music sent you off as you closed your eyes for a final time, it's beautiful sound the last thing to ever reach your ears as you went into an eternal slumber.
