Okie I really don't like how this turned out but It's done and I don't want to look at it anymore
I may go back to this sometime in the future to finish it up the way I want it to look but for now it is done... moooving on.

When I first found this in the "newest critiqueable" section, I was like 'why isn't this on the front page?!?!?' it's truly amazing.
First of all, the figure of Ariel herself is fantastic. no errors, beautiful skin tone; she is a gorgeous girl. I love your interpretation of her: the sexy dark hair, curvacious torso and smoky blue eyes. The only improvement I can think of is maybe an expression with more interest or more originality.
I also love your realistic take on Flounder. He looks like a real fish, but he still has character and expression, which I love. The way you shaded him is beautiful: the highlights, the blending - brilliant!
But my favourite thing about the whole piece is Ariel's tail. It's just incredible. The detail, the selection of colour, the gentle movement of the delicate fins - it's perfect. There is no flaw.
Final improvements that could be made are more dynamic pose ideas with more motion or interest in the content, and maybe something in the background to give the image more depth and impact. Something original would be nice e.deviantart.net/emoticons/s/sā¦ " width="15" height="15" alt="
Overall this is a fantastic piece and you should be extremely proud! I love this and will definitely be watching you! Please continue with your amazing work!

thank you so much... this really helped... and I will have to agree with your suggestions... I was thinking about the lack of expression on ariel's face not capturing the essence of ariel herself (she's overall a very playful character), but i was getting so unmotivated to finish this piece properly I just decided to move on with it =/ ... perhaps I shall finish it properly another time... haha... but yeah I totally agree with the lack of a background as well... thank you so much for your suggestions. I really do appreciate it!

I came across your gallery via the forums! You've got lovely stuff ^^!! I would have loved to critique this but I see you're no longer in want of that so I'll just mention that I think for future you should add your rim lighting only to one side of the character, not both. But that's just what I think

lol yeah I can totally see what you're saying now. This painting is from when I was just starting out at digital painting. I cringe every time I look at it now but I'm glad there are people out there who still like it.

Very beautiful mermaid and lovely colors. One thing that I noticed though is that her head seems slightly over large in proportion to her torso. It may be just the way it is positioned. Still, she's very lovely.
