Description
The Urban Elements v2.0 (will probably change name later)This piece started off as a sort of test run for a few ideas I've been wanting to try on an upcoming project. The results were rather favorable, to say the least.
For this skate deck, I used what I call a "reverse stenciling" approach to how I normally go about things...I stenciled the layers used for the darker tones of the subject (using just one can of black spray paint), but only after the base layer (the yellow seen in this photo) was applied. After that, everything else is business-as-usual; I used my paint markers for a few free handed details, then added the rest of the stencil/graffiti elements on top as filler for some of the more empty places (milk crate stencil, paint drips, etc.).
To even make this piece possible, I felt it was necessary to connect with a few talented artists I had the pleasure of meeting during this past year. I worked with contemporary/abstract artist Hope Dendinger and photographer Jami Olds to produce a series of photos that I'll be using for a few personal projects (one of which I used for this piece) later in the upcoming months. I'll post details soon, but for now, I'll be keeping things hush-hush.
